Navarro splits doubleheader with Texarkana

From Staff Reports

The Navarro Bulldogs moved one win closer to tying the school’s season record for wins with a doubleheader split Wednesday at Texarkana.

The Bulldogs had no problem hitting the ball out of the park in a 17-7 win in the first game of the day.

Navarro sluggers combined for five home runs in the game — three coming from second baseman Kyle Livingstone, giving him 10 for the year.

Livingstone went 3-for-5 at the plate, with eight RBIs with his three homers in the game.

Zach Grichor knocked out his second homer of the year, while a home run from Caleb Marx gave him five on the season.

The Bulldogs went ahead 3-0 before Texarkana rallied back to take the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Livingstone took over from that point, hitting a three-run homer in the top of the fourth.

The Bulldogs drove in three additional runs in the inning to retake the lead, 9-4.

Texarkana responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to reduce their deficit to two.

Livingstone was still at it in the fifth, hitting his second consecutive three-run home run.

Navarro added one more run to go up 13-7.

Staying hot, Livingstone got out of the park again in the sixth inning with a two-run homer.

One more run for Navarro in the sixth and one in the seventh finished off Texarkana for the win.

Pitcher Bryan Bingham picked up his 11th win of the season in five innings on the mound.

The ability to hit the long ball was not as rampant for the Bulldogs in the second game of the afternoon.

Texarkana was able to edge it’s way to a 7-6 win in a seesaw game to get the series split.

The only Bulldog able to get out of the park was Brett Parsons for his 10th of the season.

Parsons was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, Navarro took its first lead with two runs in the top of the second.

Texarkana (28-20, 14-12 Region XIV) battled back with a run in the fifth to tie the game 2-2.

Retaking the lead, the Bulldogs produced a run in the top of the sixth.

Navarro (43-8, 23-3) was unable to hold its lead for long as Texarkana scored three runs in the bottom of the inning.

The game was knotted up again in the seventh as the Bulldogs drove in two runs to tie the game at 5-5, before Texarkana retook the lead with a run in the seventh and eighth innings.

Down 7-5 Navarro attempted to make the late rally in the ninth, but came up short with just one run in the inning.

The Bulldogs will have a chance to tie and break their season win record in a doubleheader against Northeast in Mt. Pleasant Saturday.
