Surprises, respect in new Dave Campbell’s issue

The 2008 issue of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football hits stands this Monday, offering some surprises in regards to the Golden Circle.

A young group of Tigers and a realignment in District 16-4A, has the magazine’s editors predicting the Tigers to finish sixth in the district—the lowest they have been ranked by DCTF in several years.

Former Tiger Louis Vasquez received high praise going into his senior season at Texas Tech University. Vasquez was named the Best Offensive Lineman on the All-Texas College Team Offense.

Kerens earned the top spot in District 14-2A, with Mildred in second, Blooming Grove third and Rice finishing last in the preseason rankings.

Kerens was also ranked second in the ‘Darkhorse’ rankings for teams that did not make the top preseason rankings, but are teams that should fair well.

In District 21-1A , the Dawson Bulldogs are projected to finish the season in fourth place, Hubbard in fifth, Wortham in sixth and Frost seventh.

In the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, the potent offense of Navarro has them slotted to finish second in the conference this season.

Former Navarro player Jeremy Sanders received recognition as a ‘jewel’ as he goes into his first season at Baylor University.

Gracing this year’s cover is Texas Tech’s phenom wide receiver Michael Crabtree, head coach Mike Leach and quarterback Graham Harrell.
