Worthington 50th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Billy Worthington celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2008 in Lampasas, Texas at the Doyce Wheeler Ranch. There were many friends and family there to congratulate them. Barbecue was served for lunch with cake and punch for desert. There was a lot of reminiscing, story telling, joking around and picture taking. A barn dance followed with 50s and 60s music. All enjoyed a great time.

Glenna Gayle Chandler and Billy Joe Worthington met in Seymour, Texas where Glenna was a senior in high school and Billy was there building a new highway with his parents and his friend, Lee Tucker. They met at the Dairy Mart, dated, fell in love and were married about a year later on June 7, 1958. Billy continues to run heavy equipment, building roads all over Texas. They settled in Seymour, Texas when their oldest child started school. Billy went to work for Ernest Hrncirik running a bulldozer. Glenna worked part time at Lovelle’s Pastry Shop owned by her mother, Lovelle Chandler. Yeas later, Billy also worked for Lawrence Harmel and for Jerry Ermis. People say he was the best dozer operator around.

The couple raised seven children: Laura Reed of Angus; John Worthington of Pampa; the late William Worthington; Curtis Worthington, Corsicana; Terry Joe Worthington, Little Elm; Karri Copeland, Seymour; and Monty Worthington of Corsicana.

Glenna went to LVN school in Seymour, where she graduated and received her license. She worked for several local businesses and later went to work at Vernon State Hospital until they moved to Corsicana where Billy worked for W.W. Weber and Glenna went to work for Mexia State School in Mexia. She has retired and enjoying visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have a 10-acre farm about five miles south in Corsicana in Angus where Billy raises cows, goats, chickens and dogs. He has a beautiful yard that he keeps mowed and looking like a park. As soon as Billy retires too, they plan on doing some traveling. They have 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
