Norwood 70th Anniversary

John Theodore Norwood and Mary Catherine McMullan were united in marriage on a Sunday morning, June 24, 1938. Their wedding was performed by M. Dick Lowry, Methodist minister in the home of Mary Catherine’s parents in Tupelo. After the ceremony the entire family along with a host of friends attended church at the Tupelo Methodist Church. John and Kitty then left for a trip to Wichita Falls, Texas.

They lived in Wichita Falls for the first five years of marriage where John worked in the oil fields. They then returned to Corsicana where John worked for Dave McMullan building houses. He later was employed with Bethlehem Steel and then Oil City Iron Works where he retired in 1981. Kitty was a homemaker and full time mother while their five children were small, and as the family grew, she was able to commute to Dallas and receive her coveted license to become a beautician. She first owned Kitty’s Beauty Shop on 30th Street and later moved to Fourth Avenue where she retired in 1987.

A reception was hosted by their family, Joe and Veda Norwood of Corsicana, Judy and Henry Gallin of Scottsdale, Ariz., Randy and Kathy Norwood of Longview, Thomas Dewy and Yolanda Norwood of Red Oak and Ron and Nita Norwood of Corsicana.

Kitty and John are still very much in love with each other and they spend hours together every day. They relish the visits of their 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as they exemplify a “love story” in their love to their Lord, to each other, and to their family and friends.

They continue to personify the true meaning of the wedding vows.
