Tigers get rousing kickoff for second round

The Corsicana Tigers got a big send-off Thursday at Tiger Field in preparation for Friday’s playoff game against the Marshall Mavericks in Tyler.....more>>

  • REGION II-4A Playoffs: Reputation noted
A few football message board posters in East Texas this week have reminded fans of what to expect from a Phil Castles’ coached football team. Castles developed a reputation in stops at Elysian Fields and Tyler Chapel Hill of mentoring teams that don’t beat themselves. Of teams that minimize turnovers and play fundamentally sound football.

  • Cat fight
In the season opener for both schools, Corsicana was defeated Tuesday night by the Lorena Leopards, 62-47, at Tiger Gym.

  • Tigers in the NFL

  • TIGER TUESDAY: Chemistry project
In the aftermath of Corsicana 32, West Mesquite 21, going back over the weekend and listening to my interviews with Tigers coach Phil Castles, assistant coach Matt Langley and several players, something struck me.

  • Rebuilding Tigers must turn to young guns
Here’s all you need to know about the Corsicana boys basketball program — 12 of the 15 players on last season’s varsity roster have graduated. Yes, this is a whole new season for Tigers basketball coach Andy Dotson.

  • Point After: Evans sets records, and that’s only the half of it
What can you write about Tiger Football player Cody Evans that has not already been written? And I referred to Evans as Tiger Football player as opposed to Tiger running back for a purpose.
Evans is so much bigger than just the term running back.

  • Tigers roll past West Mesquite, 32-21
Cody Evans rushed for 267 yards as the Tigers beat West Mesquite, 32-21, in a Class 4A Division II Region II Bi-district playoff game Friday night at DeSoto's Eagle Stadium.
    It's Corsicana's first playoff win since 2005.
The Tigers will play Marshall next Friday in an area-round game at Tyler Rose Stadium.

  • God’s Academy wins McCluney Memorial tourney at Corsicana
God’s Academy beat Neches, 75-51, on Saturday to win the first Leslie McCluney Memorial Basketball Tournament at Corsicana High School.
The Lady Tigers lost to Hillcrest on Friday, 33-18.

  • Williams: Cool under fire
Double-digit tackles are the norm for junior Tiger linebacker Martin Davis. In fact, he has accomplished the feat in all 10 Corsicana games to date.
Davis is the Tigers’ leading tackler and from his linebacker position is tied for the team lead in interceptions with three.
