ATHENS, Ala. — An Alabama man claiming to be "angry at the world" kept a room in his home where he threw kittens onto the floor, stomped them and wrung their necks, police said.

Ronald Fraser Golden, 48, is charged with 22 felony counts of animal cruelty after police investigated kitten carcasses reported near his home. Investigators discovered five dead kittens in a bushy area behind his house, said Athens police Lt. Chris Slaton.

Golden admitted to buying kittens on Craigslist, naming them, then killing them in a "cat room," where investigators found blood splattered on the walls and floor, police said. Golden told investigators he's been killing the kittens since July, said Slaton, because he is "angry at the world."

Golden allowed police to search his property, where they discovered two living kittens, named Melvin and Mia, as well as two dogs. Slaton said Golden took care of the dogs.

Golden initially was held for evaluation by a mental health officer, then was arrested Thursday. He was transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail was set at $22,000.
