Three apps to help you get back into cooking

If you're returning to the kitchen or turning the stove on for the first time, these cooking apps will provide instructions, recipes and possibly one of the most important ingredients, inspiration.

Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything

Sharing a name with Bittman's well-known cooking tome, How to Cook Everything shows you preciesely what the name says.

In app includes 2,000 recipes, shopping lists, cooking timers and how-to illustrations.

The price is a little high, but inexperienced cooks will reap the benefits of a comprehensive cooking app.

The app is available for $9.99 from Apple stores.

Evernote Food

An extension of the already-popular Evernote organization app, Evernote Food covers all corners of the culinary spectrum.

If you need an idea for dinner, you can browse recipes. If you have a great meal at a restaurant, you can save it for referece, along with photos and the location. If you find a recipe you love, you can save it to your personal cookbook and share it with others.

Evernote Food is available for free from Apple and Android stores.

 

 

Harvest

If the arrival of spring has you commiting to adding more fruit and vegetables to your diet, Harvest can help you make good choices.

The simple app, which will run offline, tells you which fruits and veggies are in season, how to select the freshest option and how to store your produce when you get home.

The app is available for $1.99 from the Apple store.
