Deputy honored

Moehring was recently recognized as Sheriff’s Deputy of the Quarter by his peers in the sheriff’s office. Each quarter the Kiwanis Club of Corsicana honors a sheriff’s deputy, firefighter and police officer as a way of thanking those who protect the community.

Woman’s Club House Association

On May 21 the furnishings committee will present a short serenade featuring classical guitarist Eddie Healy at the Kinsloe House noon luncheon.

Healy received his bachelor’s degree in classical guitar from the University of North Texas and subsequently completed a master of music degree with Robert Guthrie at Southern Methodist University. While pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Texas in Dallas, he currently teaches also at UTD, Eastfield College in Dallas, the Preston Ridge and Central Park campus of Collin County Community College District and maintains a studio at the Gray School of Music. While maintaining this busy schedule, he finds time also for frequent performances at various music festivals, the Guitar Society and other musical events.

He is the grandson of Mary Lou Healy, who is chairman of the furnishings committee. Other committee members are Janice Elder, Pat Howell, Bobbie Johnson, Helen Montfort, Jan Noblett and Joan Summitt. The committee cordially invites all Kinsloe members to attend this luncheon program and invite a guest as this is sure to be a wonderful musical program.

Luncheon reservations should be made by noon May 19 by calling (903) 874-5791. Also, members of the board of directors should be aware of the monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. May 21.

Call in reservations by noon May 19 to (903) 874-5791.

Corsicana Newcomers Club

The monthly Corsicana Newcomers Club meeting will be held May 22 at Kinsloe House. On May 8, the “Lunch Bunch” group met at Napoli’s. On May 15, the “Roadrunners” group will travel to the Dallas Farmers Market. The group will leave at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist Church parking lot. If interested, call Peggy Dixson at (903) 874-8316.

The May 22 meeting will begin with a social time at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Stephen Farris, who will present a fun and informative talk about the discovery and restoration of Corsicana’s Interurban 305 trolley, one of several trolley cars run by Texas Electric that commuted between Corsicana and Dallas from 1913 until 1941. These large red trolleys rolled through the cotton fields north and south out of Dallas. This unique railcar was rediscovered after a 60-year absence and is being restored to become part of the Corsicana Visitor Center.

If you would like to meet new people and have a lot of fun, you are invited to attend one of the meetings of the Corsicana Newcomers Club. For more information, call Jane Sanders at (903) 874-0808.
