Church News

First Assembly of God Church in Dawson will have its regular fifth Sunday night singing at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 featuring Life Ministries Evangelistic Association (LMEA).

The group’s ministry started on the back of a 1950s Chevy grain truck. They converted the grain truck into a mobile platform from which to sing and preach in outdoor venues. They also sing in churches and other locations as the Lord leads.

LMEA is an evangelistic association made up of men and women from all walks of life, working together to reach people within their own communities with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their interests are to share with all people everywhere the free gift of salvation made available only through the blood of Jesus Christ. Their ministry includes a variety of instruments, vocal combinations, and types of songs.

Pastor Margaret Capehart extends an invitation to all to attend this special event. Watermelon will be served following the singing.

Greater Renfro Memorial Church of God in Christ, where Elder William Lewis Jr. is pastor, will have guest speaker Pastor Keith Ford of Messiah COGIC of Dallas in services at 7 p.m. Aug. 29. Come and be blessed by the Lord.

The pastor’s aide department and Showers of Blessings Ministry will sponsor the 100 men and women in red program at 7 p.m. Aug. 30. The theme for this occasion will be “Willing Workers for God.” The speaker will be Marylyn Lewis, first lady of the church. The public is extended an invitation to come and praise the Lord in this service.

Greater Renfro women will be in action, praying, singing, and praising the Lord Aug. 31. Come and get your blessing. The speaker will be Eldress Omega Kelly.

Second Avenue Baptist Church will kick off its new Wednesday services at 7 p.m. Sept. 3. The church’s desire is to teach children and adults the truths of God’s word, while at the same time showing them how to put what they learn into practice as they go about their lives. One of the ways Second Avenue Baptist Church is going to do this is through a variety of Bible-based curriculums.

For toddlers through age 4 “Hands-On Bible” will be offered. “Hands-On Bible” is just that — hands on. Children will be taught Bible lessons they can touch, see, hear, taste, and smell. Kids dive in and get involved, learning as they explore and engage. The “Hands-On Bible” curriculum makes Bible learning as fun as it was meant to be for children. The multi-sensory experiences and activities make lessons unforgettable. Bible truths go deep into the hearts and minds of kids, causing long-term learning and life change. Kids will fly out of their class excited about sharing what they’ve learned.

For ages 5 through sixth grade there will be “Bible Blitz.” This curriculum is intended to help kids build a deep and lasting friendship with God through the Bible. Every week kids will explore God’s word in large groups and in small groups called blitz teams. Kids need to learn the truth to live it, and week after week you’ll see your children grow in amazing ways as they dig into the Bible, experience its truths, and apply those truths to their lives.

“Student Life” is geared for seventh grade through college. Teenagers will start off studying the life of Christ. Though considered as the best-known person in history, many teenagers don’t know much about who Jesus was, what He did or why He did it. He was loving, miraculous, controversial and at times confusing. But more than anything, Christ revealed how much God loves you.

Your teenager will be exposed to the remarkable story of Jesus in a variety of ways. As they journey throughout the year, they will be challenged to learn with their heads. This type of learning stresses a basic understanding of Jesus. But students will be challenged to go beyond simple understanding, moving to application of what they have learned.

They will also be challenged to learn about Jesus with their heart. What your teenager knows about Jesus and what He did for them should affect them emotionally, not just mentally; they should learn to value the things of God. They will also be challenged to learn with their hands. This will enable them to be able to apply a specific skill or discipline after studying Jesus’ life. They will have fun and make friendships with other teenagers that will last for the rest of their lives. But most importantly, they will be fully engaged in the story of the one who lived, died, and was raised again to restore their relationship with God.

Adults will meet in the sanctuary for a time of worship, prayer and lessons from the Bible on various topics. September is deacon month. On Sept. 3, Brother Nelson Galaway will bring the message. Brother Wayne Moody will be teaching on Sept. 10. Brother Nicky Andrews will be teaching the last two Wednesday evenings of September.
