‘National Night Out’ set for Oct. 7

From Staff Reports

Corsicana will take part in the upcoming Texas National Night Out Oct. 7 with observances at two locations in the city.

Both the Corsicana Police Department and the Corsicana Fire Department are taking place in the observance.

Residents from throughout Corsicana will participate in the annual event, an opportunity for neighbors to visit and come together with local public safety officials in an effort to fight crime by learning prevention techniques, and watching out for one another.

All those who take part are asked to lock their doors, turn on their lights and participate in neighborhood celebrations.

Two locations will be sponsored by the Corsicana Police Department Oct. 7; one at the Corsicana Public Library, and a second at Bunert Park. The public is invited to attend for food, fellowship and information. Police and fire officials will be in attendance as well, and police and fire vehicles will be on display.

As in years past, neighborhoods will host their own celebration with events such as block parties, cookouts, game night and tailgate parties. If you have any questions about National Night Out, or would like to register your event, contact Lela Martin, community service officer, at (903) 654-4922.

Once registered, your event will be visited by safety officials to answer any questions those in attendance may have about crime prevention and safety.

The group Texas Against Crime sponsors the annual National Night Out in the state, which is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in crime reduction efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations, and send the message that participating neighborhoods are safe places to live.
