Dawson Garden Club

At 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7, Dawson Garden Club held the first meeting of the 2008-2009 club season at the home of club president Ruby Faucett. The members read the club collect and were presented yearbooks. A review of the program for the club year was given by Becca Murray, third vice president. Minutes were read by secretary Tina Schnell. Treasurer’s report was given by Melva Turner. A letter from the City of Dawson was read.

The club is planning to provide a Veteran’s Day luncheon in November and a lunch in the Dawson City Park Pavilion with the Mexia Garden Club members as guests Oct. 7. February will bring a valentine progressive luncheon featuring the homes of Doris Meredith, Melva Turner and Paula Sears. March is the month in which the emphasis will be on Arbor Day poetry and art judging contest for fifth grade students and art for fourth grade. The March 3 meeting will be in the home of Lena Mae Carver. The April program will feature a trip to the Dallas Arboretum, and the May meeting will close the year with lunch at Olive Garden in Waco at which the new officers will be installed.

Woman’s Club House Association

It’s that time of year again and accordingly the style show title for Oct. 8 will be “There’s a Chill in the Air,” which of course send most to checking their closets for their fall wardrobe. To help along the way in knowing what’s new for the season will be the following shops participating: Sweet ‘n Sassy, Cassady’s Boutique, Uniquely Yours, and So Chic by Marsha Douglass. Each shop will present nine outfits for fall. This exciting collection by Corsicana merchants will dazzle the audience with velvets and leathers, corduroy and cotton, and silks and denims with trims of ruffles, sequins, velvet, beads and exquisite buttons. Piano accompaniment will be by Sandra Huffman. The style shows are the most popular programs presented each year at the Kinsloe House luncheon programs so members are urged to make reservations early by calling (903) 874-5791 no later than noon Oct. 6. Hostesses for the luncheon are members of the style show committee: chairman Marsha Douglass, Elonda Cassady, Barbara Erwin, Martha Grove, Lynda Housley, Barbara Jones, Carol Langham, Hanna McCleary, Lou Nagy and Judy Willis. They cordially invite all members of Kinsloe House to attend and bring a guest.
