A man wanted on numerous charges is in custody following a two-hour manhunt Thursday near Richland Chambers Lake.

Joe Garcia, 29, of Ennis led sheriff’s deputies and tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on a two-hour chase Thursday, after lawmen attempted to arrest him at a construction site near Oak Cove Marina on South U.S. Highway 287. He was arrested about 1 p.m. Thursday near Mattie Gaston Park, according to Mike Cox, chief deputy of the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s investigators obtained information about Garcia’s whereabouts and attempted to serve an arrest Warrant Thursday morning. Garcia fled from officers on foot, and initially eluded authorities. Search dogs from the Beto One unit of TDCJ were called to assist in the hunt for Garcia, Cox said.

In all, Garcia is believed to have traveled over seven miles on foot while running from deputies, Cox said.

Garcia was wanted on several warrants, including a felony probation warrant from Ellis County, Cox said.
