BREAKING NEWS: Judge throws out search of Murray vehicle

A visiting judge agreed with the defense, granting the suppression of a vehicle search that yielded trace amounts of methamphetamine — a decision that puts in doubt criminal proceedings against suspended justice of the peace Donna Murray.

Judge George Allen of Waco granted the motion during a pre-trial hearing Friday.

Navarro County District Attorney R. Lowell Thompson said the state will appeal the judge’s decision to the 10th Court of Appeals in Waco.

In another matter, an appeal by Murray’s defense team to the 10th Court of Appeals resulted in a temporary order to stay civil proceedings against her. The court ruled that the civil case should be “abated” (put on pause, in essence) until a hearing is held in Waco and that Murray’s salary should be reinstated.

For a complete accounting of Friday’s activities in the Murray case, see the online and print editions of the Daily Sun on Saturday.
