Chamber brews up fun

Witches, members flock to ‘Bash’

It was a room filled with skulls and cobwebs, witches and fairies. It was a room filled with ... “Wait, was that Batman bidding?”

The fourth annual Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce member reception and fundraiser took on a ghoulish theme, “Monster Mash Bash,” Tuesday night at The Cook Center on the campus of Navarro College. Witches were the popular costume of choice, and yes, Batman and his first lady, Batgirl, were there too.

Members feasted on finger foods and beverages, and took part in a silent auction. The highlight was the annual live auction, one in which Chamber Executive Director Paul Hooper cast the highest bid, $1,300, for a three-night trip for two to San Antonio.

“It’s a fun event,” Hooper said.

It’s also the Chamber’s biggest fund-raiser of the year. Hooper said the Chamber planned for 120 participants, and cut off reservations at 180. Ten businesses signed on as platinum sponsors: Action Power Sports, Community National Bank & Trust, Haynie Drilling Co. Inc., HCK2, McCoy’s Building Supply, Navarro Regional Hospital, Oil City Iron Works, Oncor, True Value Company and Wal-Mart.

More than 70 donated auction items, Hooper said.

“I’ve got a great committee that put this together,” Hooper said. “They’ve worked on every event, and they put a lot of time into this one. They love doing it.
