Thanks for the support
To the Editor: The “Support the Troops” barbecue/garage/bake sale held April 5 was a great success, and we want to express our sincere thanks to everyone who supported this endeavor, including everyone who came by and made purchases. To those who donated clothing and other items for the garage and bake sale, money for shipping postage, the Daily Sun and KAND for publicity. Lance and Company for chips, Brookshire’s for cases of bottled water, friends and members who worked endless hours, we truly appreciate your support. Special thanks go to Joe and Cindy Erwin, Barbara Mertz, Pattie Brazell and others who dropped off bags and bags of items for the troops, all of which were packed yesterday and will be on their way to our military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan next week.
From all the members of the American Legion, SAL, and the Auxiliary (Angels of Corsicana), thank you, Corsicana and Navarro County, for helping us “Support the Troops!”

A call for justice
To the Editor: I read the article in Wednesday’s Daily Sun (April 9) regarding JP Donna Murray. I am incredulous to think she is still being paid! To think she was suspended in November 2007 after being charged with possession of drugs and still receiving a paycheck boggles my mind. Any elected official who allegedly so blatantly disregards the law they were elected to uphold should be suspended without pay while waiting the outcome of a trial. Their pay could and should be escrowed and in the event of an innocent verdict, could be paid out at that point. Not only was she arrested for drug possession ... she thought the probation requirements didn’t apply to her. This is simply outrageous. How many times is she going to be allowed to “work the justice system” to her own benefit by firing her attorney and seeking a continuance? If I was sitting back on my duff and getting paid for it, I guess I would probably try to milk it as long as I could. The gravy train needs to stop right now. I can think of a million places my tax dollars would be better spent than to pay a justice of the peace who doesn’t think the law applies to her. Will she be required to pay back the many thousands of dollars paid to her if she is found guilty? I would hope so, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for it to come back to the county ...
It’s a pretty sad state of affairs ...
I am totally dismayed over this whole issue and am eager to see justice dispensed.
Thanks,
Marsha McAlister

Do the right thing
To the Editor: Last Sunday afternoon was such a beautiful day I decided to take my dogs to the I.O.O.F. Park to walk. As I approached the park it was such a wonderful sight to see so many families out having picnics, kids playing and fishing and enjoying the sun and the park. As I walked around the track and got close to the water I was so disappointed to see the trash around the lake. There are many trash cans around the whole park. People, use them! The city has allowed us to have such beautiful parks that we can enjoy but we have to mess that up, too. We are now seeing clearing of old houses and lots cleaned up to make our city nicer; please, everyone take a little time to clean up your mess. There are ducks and geese in the lake that can be harmed by the trash especially the plastic bags they can get hung up in them. Sharla Allen and her wonderful staff keep everything clean during the week we need to help out on the weekends and do our part. Please people, use the trash cans that are provided for you!

A special Youth Expo time
To the Editor: I would like to thank each and everyone that had any part in making our 50th year Youth Expo a success. To the 4-H clubs for their hard work in the concession stand. To the community for their wonderful support, and to the media for making it possible for all to know what was going on at the expo. We like to see and hear about the kids.
The youth put a lot of good meat into the market and our tables.
Again, thanks to all.
May God bless for all the hard work put into the expo and know a good job was done.

Kudos to the coaches
To the Editor: I wish to express my appreciation to the Coach Lawhon and Coach Thomas and their players for the very successful boys and girls soccer season. Both teams provided some very exciting and entertaining matches with the boys winning the district championship. Even though the girls fell a little short of winning the district they logged some very good area statistics. Leeza Mitchell, with the help of her temmates, was the leader in goals scored, 40, and assists, 32, for the Dallas area and the team was fifth in team offense for the Dallas area. Thanks again for a great season and I am looking forward to your accomplishments next season.
A fan,
Paul Clagett
