Re: Car lot sparks debate (Daily Sun, June 6, 2008)
Well, hoop-de-do and la-dee-da. Let Nick Gonzales contact Channel 4, also 8, 11 and all the others he can think of, including LULAC. They (the TV and LULAC) are not on the Corsicana Board of Adjustments and for just once, can someone in this town follow the CURRENT ordinances. Race, gender, religion, etc., are not in this argument. It’s like “I don’t like the way you play so I’m going home and tell my mama and daddy.” For everyone’s sake, grow up Mr. Gonzales. Don’t try to use your Hispanic references to justify your illegal sign.

Upset over appraisal budget
To the Editor: Well that didn’t take long, did it? We get the new appraisals shoved down our throats with the central appraisers saying not as many people protested this year, and then he submits a new budget where as he wants more money for salaries and some extra help. The reason why people didn’t protest was it didn’t do any good. I know because last year I protested up a storm only to have them come right back at me with higher evaluations again this year. Someone needs to speak up for us taxpayers and demand a roll back and tell this guy enough already. We are in a recession, houses are being foreclosed on, property taken away, and gas and food prices so high people can’t afford to live anymore. Then you have to read where he thinks he needs more help and everyone should get a pay raise. I say we’d be money ahead firing his whole staff and doing away with the office of tax appraiser altogether. They max us property owners out then demand more pay for doing it. The end result is killing us who are on a fixed income, old, or disabled. Do any of these people even know what’s going on or are they like geese waking up in a new world every morning. I am dead set against any pay increases or extra personnel for any taxing office. You expect us to live on what’s left after taxing us off our property. How about you doing the same?
David Smith
(Editor’s note: Karen Morris, a woman, is the chief appraiser.)

Happy with business
To the Editor: The “Super D” Laundromat has once again made some outstanding improvements and Darrell Waites is to be commended on a job well done. Thanks for keeping up with the times. Top of the line washers and dryers, clean and cool environment and a key to the bathroom. What more could you ask for? When things don’t work correctly, he’s only a phone call away and he makes that wrong a right. As customers, let’s help keep it clean and safe so that everyone can have a happy washing/drying experience at our neighborhood laundromat. Thanks, Darrell, and I’ll see you on Fridays.
Sincerely,
Penny Liggins
