Letters to the Editor 9/27/09

Grateful for care

To the Editor: On Thursday afternoon around 6:30, my son and his family were in a terrible accident just north of Corsicana. Were it not for the wonderful efforts of the first responders, I could have lost them. I cannot thank these people from the Corsicana Fire Department enough. They took my son and daughter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and my two grandchildren to the hospital in Corsicana. The hospital staff took care of the children until I could drive there to get them. Super people at the hospital! And a special thanks to Travis who transported the children to the hospital and after he got off, went back to the accident scene to find the children’s dog and board him for two days until I picked him up. Corsicana is truly blessed to have such a fine group of people who truly care about people.

Questions leadership

To the Editor: I recently read in your paper a letter that said, “Give Obama a chance.” Well, he’s been in office seven months and here’s what he has done.

1. In his first seven months, Obama has created a $1.3 trillion debt.

2. He has proposed a budget that will have the U.S. $9 trillion in debt by 2018. (The interest payments will be $1 billion per day!)

3. He has put a communist and other radicals in important positions in his administration. (Read about Van Jones.)

4. He has taken over private banks and auto companies. He gave much of the companies to labor unions and fired one CEO. (None of these actions are constitutional. Read the Constitution!)

5. Made speeches overseas apologizing for the American nation and claiming that, although we are not a “Christian country,” we are “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”

6. Proposed (on camera) that we create a “National Civilian Defense Corps” that should be “as strong and powerful as the army.” Why does he want a force like this?

7. Just yesterday, he proposed making all illegal aliens legal so that they can get health care insurance. How much would that add to our deficit?

8. Obama has said, “Judge me by the people around me.” Well, in his first book he stated that in college he “sought as friends black activists and Marxist professors.” (If you don’t believe me, read his book.) He also described in this book how he attended several “socialist conventions.”

9. He campaigned on the idea of “redistribution of wealth” which basically means taking money from those that have it and giving it to people with less. This concept is very Marxist.

I hope the country can weather another three years of Obama.

To the Editor: Aren’t you tired of hearing “the president wants” as if that is all we have to look forward to when the Americans don’t want a big portion of what he wants. We do not want socialized medicine as he is trying to lead us in that direction. He is not deaf, nor is he blind but he seems to have selective hearing and selective seeing. It is not possible that his close associates are not keeping him informed of what is happening and what is being said about those he has chosen to be his advisors. Any company, and that is large and small, have an application filled out on those hoping to secure a “job” with them. Why hasn’t our president done that? Is it because he wants “yes” persons as his close associates? The “czars” were not approved by Congress so we have been told. Next question: Why?

Gratitude for service

To the Editor: Cadet Commander Josh Abbe, Corsicana High School ROTC, will be a senior grad at CHS in May 2010. Josh is in the top 5 percent of his class at CHS. A member of the Bunert Park Flag Committee, I asked Josh if he would help us on Sept. 11, 2009, at Bunert Park honoring our U.S. military men and women and local responders in Corsicana and Navarro County. Cadet Abbe, in a marching and salute drill, put a flag in place in “Honor and Memory” of Cpl. William O’Brien, Iraqi Freedom 2008. A military function honoring a soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice has to be performed in a professional and dignified manner. Cadet Abbe did a outstanding job, a credit to Sgt. Hardie, U.S. Army retired and CHS ROTC instructor. Cadet Abbe is interested in attending the Air Force Academy in 2010. Hopefully Congressman Joe Barton will give Cadet Josh Abbe consideration for an appointment to the Air Force Academy. Cadet Abbe is clean-cut, well-mannered, and I’m sure will make a good officer in our United States Air Force.

Cal Thomas feedback

To the Editor: I do believe that Rep. Joe Wilson shouldn’t have shouted out “You Lie” to President Obama. But, I will quote The Dallas Morning News last week: “Senators closing in on a comprehensive health care bill have whittled away all but the most contentious issues, and one of those loomed large Friday: coverage for illegal immigrants.” Now it is hard to choose here. Is Rep. Wilson in error for shouting “You Lie” or, is President Obama in error for saying “the health care bill doesn’t cover illegal immigrants?”

Thanks for your great coverage of the news. Enjoy reading your paper.
