Fort Hood reaction
To the Editor: Major Husan thinks he is a martyr and a hero? He's wrong and here is why.
At Fort Hood, he not only shot and killed 13 unarmed soldiers, and also wounded 32 others, none of these people were armed, only Major Husan.
He picked a place to do his killing and maiming where no one would have a chance except himself. That sounds, not only like the traitor that he is, but a desperate person that is hell bent on killing any American, even to the point of picking a place that no one else had a gun except himself.
Now, finally, after 3 1/2 years, the deceased and injured families still haven't received any compensation. Texas Republican Congressmen are determined to see that the soldiers and their families will receive the benefits they so deserve.
The Department of Defense and President Obama has refused to classify the attack as an act of terrorism or combat. The federal government paid victims of the 9/11 attack including those killed and injured at the Pentagon. Our Fort Hood people deserve the same.
Let's do right by them and back those in Washington that are trying to do the right thing. A verbal shout out, some letter writing, call ins, anything at all helps our great servicemen and women that stand up, with their life on the line, and protect us at a moment’s notice will help their cause.
They need our help now.
A shameless act
To the Editor: Just recently my wife and I again rescued a small young dog from the highway entering our city. I say again, because it has happened so many times in the past.
Why do people throw animals away like that. This young pup will more than likely be put down ...
We would keep the dog myself, but we already have a Minpin and a Lab/Pyrenees mix that we rescued and we cannot afford another dog. So, if I can’t keep it and can’t afford to pay the animal shelter to take it what do I do with it? Put it down myself probably although I hate to do that.
We need more than a slap on the wrist for people that knowingly abuse and/or abandon animals along our country roads. They should be ashamed of themselves and with a little luck maybe somewhere down the line they will be abandoned and left alone.
How about one of your many column contributors doing a investigative piece on this problem?
