Thanks for service

To the Editor: The Blooming Grove Elementary School would like to express appreciation to several individuals and businesses that for three years have provided a “free” vision exam and eyeglasses for many of our students.

The Adopt a School Program with the Essilor Vision Foundation has coordinated and provided this service with the help of Lisa Tetreault, a parent and a resident of our school district.

On April 4 this year, the Essilor Vision Foundation with the aid of First Eyecare and Dr. Olga Sukenik providing the eye exams, conducted the clinic with 27 students receiving comprehensive eye exams and 21 of those students receiving eyeglasses.

Coordinating the event this year was Kayla Rodriguez with help from David Guminski, Shawna Lemley and Michelle Greco.  Also, student volunteers from the Health Science Class at Blooming Grove High School helped to facilitate the day-long clinic.  The students and adult volunteers worked tirelessly throughout that day to ensure the clinic went smoothly and effectively.

Without all of these volunteers, the Essilor Vision Foundation, First Eyecare and Dr. Sukenik, this service would not have been possible.  On behalf of the students and parents of the Blooming Grove Elementary School, thanks to all of you who made the clinic possible this year.

Sincerely,

David Brewer

Appreciates support

To the Editor: As chairman of the Kerens Veterans Memorial committee, I would like to thank all the members of our committee for their efforts in putting together such a great program to share our ground breaking ceremony with our community. Each of them spent much time and worked very hard to make it the success that it was.

I also want to thank all the citizens and groups which have been so supportive in helping us to make the progress we have in reaching our goals. We do intend to pour our concrete slab in late April, and we have ordered all the black granite monuments for the Memorial and also the “family” benches which have been sold so far.

Through the efforts of our group and with the support of our community, we have accumulated the funds to pay for the concrete and the monuments. We still have much work to do and considerable funds to raise to help pay for the remainder of the Memorial, but we feel very good that this will all happen as we move forward.

With the support of our community and their desire for this to become a reality, our Memorial to honor our veterans is coming together quite well.

Once again, thanks to everyone for their support.

Danny Combs
