— News of note

To the Editor: Although the War on Terror was declared over, and we won the Cold War, Russian Airborne Assault Forces will be conducting joint terror-war exercises with U.S. soldiers using our equipment at Ft. Carson, CO in May.  They will recon imaginary camps and make raids, according to, 4/27/12.  I have to wonder, "Why now?"

Another Friday evening news dump reported on reveals that Congress has been bypassed and the Palestinian Authority will receive nearly $200 million although those funds were frozen by Congress.  Reportedly, the President ordered Hillary to inform Congress his actions were for national security.  This will come as no surprise to most Americans.  Why is Congress playing dead?  Have they no choice?

There are listed about seven schemes with Russia which may have betrayed the US and our allies on  These include betraying Poland and the Czech Republic concerning the missile defense system, refusal to keep secret the tech data on some missiles, and leaked cables providing info on every Trident missile sent to England.  Eligibility matters, or what is a Constitution for?

Perhaps most surprising is the article, "Spanish company will count American votes overseas in November," at on April 10, 2012.  The Spanish online voting company SKYTL bought the largest vote processing corporation in the US.  The company's reputation for security was diminished when University of Michigan faculty and students accepted SKYTL's challenge and hacked into the computers.  Project Vote has concluded that SKYTL's internet system is vulnerable to attack from inside and outside the US.  Someone's truism:  It isn't who votes that count, but who counts the votes.

Felons at the helm?

To the Editor: Regardless of your political affiliations, how angry would you be if your neighbor was allowed to write Hot Checks to cover their expenses with no repercussions? All the while, you had to balance your family’s budget, saying no to your child for the little amenities they used to enjoy, like a baseball bat or uniform, so your neighbor can splurge.

It’s not just outrageous, but illegal, well, that is for the average citizen.

For the average Joe or Jane, writing a Hot Check will land you a Misdemeanor, Class C for $50 or less, Class B for $50-$500, and a Class A for $500-$1500. Jump past $1500 and you just got yourself a Felony, which will stick with you for the rest of your life, disqualifying you to vote or own firearms and many job opportunities.

So what happens if you write a Hot Check as a group to the tune of 1.3 TRILLION DOLLARS?

You keep your Congressional Pension, and maybe even get re-elected to bump up your initial starting pay of $174,000.

There are 535 U.S. Congress members; $1,300,000,000,000 divided by 535 is $2,429,906,542.06. That’s $2 billion in one Hot Check per congressman or woman.

In the Great State of Texas, for a citizen, under Penal Code Title 7 Offense Against Property Chapter 31 Theft (7)  a felony of the first degree if the value of the property stolen is $200,000 or more.

That’s Twelve thousand one hundred and forty nine, (12,149) First Degree Felonies, in one year alone per Congressman or Woman, if they were held to the same standards as the governed in Texas.

As a U.S. Marine Combat Vet, that’s not what I signed up to fight for.

Semper Fidelis,

Stephen Parker
