Corsicana Daily Sun

— Election preferences

To the Editor: I will be supporting Darrell Shelton for Navarro County Commissioner of Precinct 1.

I have known Darrell for almost 40 years, and I have no hesitation in recommending him...

He is not a politician but an honest, hardworking man with the leadership needed for the job. He has lived in this precinct for 45 years and is well acquainted with the area and its problems.

Darrell is not a big talker but is instead a person of action. He has been involved with the Navarro County Youth Expo for years as a volunteer worker and as a buyer. I have worked with him in the Christmas in Action program, and this past year he volunteered his time to travel to Joplin, Mo. to assist in the tornado cleanup along with our church.

Darrell has spent many years serving our community as a teacher, and as a result of his hard work he was chosen earlier this year as the Corsicana Education Foundation's Teacher of the Year from CHS. He was also the CHS science department head for a number of years where he gained experience in dealing with annual purchasing budgets.

The main reason that I am supporting Darrell is because of his real working experience in road construction using heavy equipment. He has spent 25 years of summer job time building roads, parking lots, dams and concrete pads while gaining experience in the operation of bulldozers, backhoes, motor graders, scrapers, water trucks and compactors. This is true experience ...

I know that Darrell will do a fine job...

He is a true leader, easy to work with, and will be fiscally conservative...

I hope you will join me and my family in supporting Darrell Shelton for Commissioner on Tuesday, July 31.

To the Editor: In these economic hard times it is important that all voters exercise their rights as American citizens and vote their convictions. So many people think their “one” vote doesn’t count. This is far from true. With the upcoming run-off election it is even more important. There are some very good people running and it may be hard for some to make up their minds and maybe not even vote. In the race for County Commission Pct. 1 this is particularly the case. Both candidates are basically intelligent and personable people. We must look at their qualifications to make our decisions. They both have long and distinguished service to the community. As Commissioner it is important that we select someone that can keep our roads safe and maintained but he also needs a strong sense of business as he will be working with the Commissioner’s Court making decisions that effect everyone in the county and the taxes we pay.

Jason Grant meets all these qualifications and deserves the opportunity to serve as the next Commissioner of Precinct 1.

To the Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to speak out for Darrell Shelton who is running for Navarro County Commissioner, Pct 1.

I have known Darrell since we were kids and count it an honor and privilege to call him friend. Darrell's experience through his family's construction business and continued involvement in the construction industry through the years certainly qualifies him in that area.

I have been able to serve along side Darrell through the years as we have raised our kids and through church activities and know his dedication to strive to do his very best and do what is right for everyone involved. Darrell's career to this point has been spent teaching young people in the classroom and by example and I know that he will continue with the same dedication to the people of Navarro County.

I am very proud of Darrell and feel that the citizens of Navarro County should be proud to have a man of Darrell's character that is willing to serve.

To the Editor: These are troubled times. By electing the best officials we can prevent having to take desperate measures. Jason Grant is, in my opinion, the best choice for Precinct 1 Commissioner. Jason is a lifelong resident of Navarro County. He understands the needs and wants of our residents and is willing to do what he can to make life here the best it can be.

Jason has worked at Corsicana Police Department over 20 years, where he has gained experience in the workings of local government. He knows our county and the day to day business necessary to keep it working. Jason also grasps the diplomacy necessary to represent the people and to express their needs. He will also fight for whats right and get the job done.

Most important, however; Jason has been instilled with high moral standards. He is a hard worker and devoted to his family and he takes pride in his community.

A great county commissioner is one who is experienced in not only road construction, but all aspects of local government, and is both representative and just. Jason Grant meets and exceeds these requirements and is more than willing to surpass expectations. I urge that you help to elect him as the next Precinct 1 Navarro County Commissioner.
