To the Editor: The Corsicana Animal Services Department had a very successful Derrick Days Adoption Event, adopting a total of 33 animals to new homes. Of course this wonderful outcome would be impossible without the tireless efforts of the following candidates, businesses, and individuals for their continued support:
River, Melissa and Carey Dean, Animal lovers and continued supporters;
Jack and Barb Wepler, Animal lovers and continued supporters;
Ralph and Fran Townes, Animal lovers and continued supporters;
Judge Mike Russell, Animal lover and continued supporter;
Kathy Asta, Animal lover and dedicated animal shelter staff member;
Sharla Allen, Director, Corsicana Parks and Recreation;
Lynn Gatlin, Keller Williams Realty;
Sonny Bancroft, Keren’s Grain & Elevator;
Sherry Martin, Verandah Country Cabins;
Joe Chow, Candidate U.S. Congress District 6;
Bobby Vickery, Candidate State Representative District 8;
Bryon Cook, Candidate State Representative District 8;
Leon Tate, Candidate City Council Member Precinct 2;
Ralph Gonzalez, Candidate City Council Member Precinct 2;
Ruby Williams, Candidate City Council Member Precinct 2;
Josh Tackett, Candidate District 13 Clerk;
Amanda Doan Putman, Candidate County Court at Law Attorney;
James Lagomarsino, Candidate District 13 Judge;
Butch Warren, Candidate County Commissioner Precinct 3;
James Murray, Candidate County Commissioner Precinct 3;
Darrell Shelton, Candidate County Commissioner Precinct 1;
Johnny Lake, Candidate County Commissioner, Precinct 1;
Jason Grant, Candidate County Commission, Precinct 1;
Mike Cox, Candidate Navarro County Sheriff;
Elmer Tanner, Candidate Navarro County Sheriff;
Guardian Glass, water;
Fastenal Company, water;
Northland Cable, $500 donation towards Spay and neuter coupons.
A special kudos to the Humane Society of Navarro County and all of their dedicated volunteers. Without their steadfast efforts the Corsicana Animal Shelter would not be able to hold remote events to help find homes for all the animals that are in our care. Also thanks to Tony and Lynn Gatlin at Project Pawz for their persevering support. And an extra special acknowledgement to The Ranch Radio. These guys take every opportunity to support us on and off air, in addition to hosting Wet Nose Wednesday and so many other efforts it would be impossible to mention.
Katy Watkins, Corsicana Animal Services Manager

Now that the holidays for 2013 are behind us and we’ve had a brief moment to reflect back on all that has transpired, I can say that we at The Salvation Army are humbled and amazed by how this community came together to help meet the needs of so many struggling people.

As a volunteer with the Angels of Corsicana Troop Support, most of my time all year is spent on items, especially Christmas cards, to fill the stockings when we pack in December.
