Courthouse thoughts

To the Editor: I’m sure the folks concerned with the remodeling of our Courthouse are aware of the following that I recently read. According to the Texas Historical Commission the state has allocated $247 million for restoration and other projects at 84 of Texas 235 active courthouses.

At least 75 counties await funding for restoration of their historic courthouses. Since nearly half of the project’s funding came from the THC the remodeling had to mirror as close as possible the original design other than modern restrooms, heating, air-conditioning, an elevator and fire sprinklers.

Old photos of the courthouse, inside and out, would be most helpful.

Sincerely,

Rockey Keene
