Highlight on Election Day
To the Editor: During his time in Congress, Joe Barton has consistently stood up for Second Amendment rights. I think it is important that you know that Congressman Barton has earned the endorsement of the NRA this election. An NRA endorsement shouldn’t be taken for granted, and Joe doesn’t. He’s earned the NRA endorsement and has earned my family’s full support.
Not only has Congressman Barton earned this important endorsement, but he has also scored a cumulative 89 percent from the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in the 111th Congress and 100 percent thus far in the 112th Congress. Coming from a manufacturing background, this is exceptional. I cannot emphasize how important it is to have a representative in congress that understands local industry and manufacturing in general.
We need more congressmen like Joe Barton in Washington to stand up for our rights and to bring manufacturing back to the USA. I would urge everyone to please take the time to vote in this important election and support Congressman Joe Barton, a true representative for our rights and defending US jobs.

To the Editor: Over the years, I’ve been asked how hard it must be to be married to someone in law enforcement.
“The danger, the hours, him missing out.”
Yes, many dinners, holidays, anniversary plans, vacations cut short.
But it was his job. A job he doesn’t take lightly or for granted. I am so proud of him for that.
And I knew one day our kids would know that when they looked at him, they would see the reason he couldn’t be there. Why he missed certain things in their lives.
Because, being an officer of the law, he was the victim’s voice. Especially for children. He wanted to protect those who had been hurt or wronged. Find the person responsible for whatever the crime. Stolen property, injuring someone — or worse.
They grew up knowing, seeing first hand, an excellent example of “being there” for others, making sacrifices, putting others before yourself.
They see the respect he shows to everyone, no matter who they are, because people make mistakes. Our kids have witnessed fairness and respect. So although there were sacrifices over the years, the reward is immeasurable. He’s made differences in people’s lives. That’s who he is. It’s who he will continue to be.
Whether it’s taking drugs off the streets, recovering stolen property or working on prevention. Whatever it is, it’s what he does, and it’s who he is. He has always been a dedicated husband, father and servant to the people of this county. He is fighting for what is right the same way he did 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago.
Leadership. Integrity. Dedication. Not just words thought to look good on a sign or a magazine ad. It is what he believes in. It’s what he stands for.
It’s what Elmer Tanner will bring to the position of sheriff.
A very proud wife and citizen of Navarro County,
To the Editor: I am writing to offer my wholehearted support for Jason Grant, Navarro County Commissioner Precinct 1.
I have known Jason for many years, first as a friend, and second as a law enforcement officer. As a man, Jason holds strong family values and is dedicated to his family as well as this community. He was raised with a strong work ethic and he has shown throughout his life that he values hard work, determination and loyalty. He has worked extremely hard on this campaign and this commitment to the position will continue after he is elected. He has the support of his wonderful wife April which is extremely important for someone in public office.
Jason has always been a wonderful friend and family man and has been able to juggle those roles with his role as a police detective seamlessly. He will continue to exhibit the quality of character that we can all be proud to have as a representative. He will work hard while never compromising his integrity and faith. He will listen, make well-informed decisions, and strive to do what’s right. I now all of this because I know him so well and I have every confidence that he is the right man for the job.
I hope each of you will get out and vote, and will cast your vote for Jason Grant for Navarro County Commissioner Precinct 1.
To the Editor: You have the privilege of having four candidates to choose from as your commissioner for Precinct 1.
I want to recommend Darrell Shelton to you. I have known Darrell and his wife, Cindy, for a number of years. They are exceptional individuals. I worked with Darrell as a teacher and know that he gets along great with people. He is very intelligent, and has a wide range of experiences in a variety of fields that are needed for a commissioner.
Darrell has what it takes to be an exceptional commissioner. He is a leader. He is dependable, a good listener, and will take action to get the job accomplished.
I hope you will vote for Darrell Shelton as your next Precinct 1 commissioner.
