What a wonderful place!

By Chase Springer

In light of my rapidly approaching departure to New York City, I have been thinking a lot about what I will miss about my hometown when I’m off in the Big Apple, and the list I made surprised even me!

Well, first and foremost are the people.

Obviously, my family — along the few friends that I am sure will remain close — is at the top of the list, but I will always have them. However, there are so many interesting and fun people in Corsicana — well, all of Navarro County, really — who I might not see again after going to college.

May 30 marks my one-year anniversary with the Daily Sun, and this job has really taught me to appreciate where I live and the people of this fair county. I have met a lot of interesting people because of working here — from a Corsicana native who now keeps an adult buffalo in his house to the man who now holds the title of “Best New Act In America.”

Then, there are the lovely people I work with on a (almost) daily routine. From the delightful Janet Jacobs who keeps me in stitches from our two side-office desks to the beautiful and talented Deanna Brown with whom I share all the juicy stories of my presently — and thereby pleasantly — high-school-drama-free life.

I am definitely going to miss the people here, even though NYC could fit at least 500 Corsicanas inside it!

Speaking of people, I am going to miss the community theater scene in Corsicana.

The Warehouse Living Arts Center and Palace Theater have lent me some of the best experiences I have ever had in this 25,000 population town.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of working backstage at the WLAC’s latest production: Das Barbecü. Because of the great thespians — and back-stage crew members — the whole show was a hoot to watch, work with, and be a part of. Between Darlene’s stage managing prowess — which was mixed with a ton of humorous quips — Zane’s ridiculously over-the-top humor, and Matt’s awesome karaoke-style performances of the current musical number, I couldn’t help but to burst out into fits of laughter even when the show was in progress.

Sure, New York is the theater capital of the world, but I am pretty sure they do not have a Zane there, but if they do, all my fears of ending up rather alone in my dorm room studying 24/7 are gone!

Which leads me to the thing I will miss most about Corsicana: the memories.

Because of my friends, family, and the rest of the wonderful people here, I will always have a horde of awesome, hilarious, and sometimes tragic memories to reflect back on for my writings in the future — wherever that future may lead me.

High school ends in just about a month from now, and that makes me excited, yet sad when it comes down to it. These really have been the best years of my life, and I owe it all to the people who have made it so much fun — which even includes teachers.

But hey! Enough with the sadness, I still have a full 3 months of summer to enjoy in beautiful Corsicana!

August 23 can wait just a little bit longer — I have a lot more memories to make yet!

See you on the streets!
