McCarver reunion
Descendants of the E.D. and Annie McCarver family united April 26 in Corsicana. Those arriving early spent April 25 at the weekend home of Johnny and Harriet Minze in the St. Elmo community.
Planned events began April 26 at the Palace Theatre for a viewing of “Corsicana’s Oil History.” The family went from there to Corsicana Laundry and Dry Cleaners, which E.D. McCarver founded in the early 1900s. City Manager Connie Standridge presented the family with the key to the city. From there the family went to First United Methodist Church for a tour and lunch of deli sandwiches from Collin Street Bakery. After placing flowers on the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery, free time was spent at Derrick Days, the Pearce Collections Museum at Navarro College, and visiting extended family in the area. Planned activities resumed with dinner at Napoli’s Restaurant.
The family enjoyed sharing memories, pictures and old clippings from the Corsicana Daily Sun, which included a death notice of the McCarver family’s pet parrot “Polly,” who reportedly knew all the children’s names, some of the grandchildren’s and was known to sing “After the Ball is Over,” Annie’s favorite song.
The family wished to thank all those who helped to make their visit a memorable one.
