Wisdom initiated Into honor society

Robert Wisdom was initiated into the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society on Oct. 16. The initiation was held in the Manning Chapel of the Meyers Christian Studies Center at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society for students, professional counselors, and counselor educators that values academic and professional excellence in counseling. They promote a strong professional identity through members who contribute to the realization of a healthy society by fostering wellness and human dignity. Their mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling.

Membership in CSI is open to students and graduates of counselor education programs. Students must have completed at least nine semester hours in a counseling program, have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 system, and be recommended for membership in CSI by the local chapter. Wisdom has also been elected treasurer of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s chapter of CSI.

Wisdom is a graduate of Mildred High School and a 2008 graduate of Texas A&M University where he received his B.A. degree in psychology. He is now attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor working on his master’s degree in marriage and family Christian counseling. Wisdom is the son of Mike and Susan Wisdom of Eureka and the grandson of Gene and Reba Neal of Corsicana and Helen Wisdom of Terrell.







Coleman named to honor roll

Brigina Coleman of Corsicana earned a place on the dean’s honor roll for the summer semester at Texas State Technical College Waco. Coleman is a student in chemical/environmental laboratory technology. The dean’s honor roll recognizes the scholastic achievement of students with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 for the semester.



Military news

Army Pfc. Anthony Vasquez has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, Ky., which included basic combat training and advanced individual training (AIT).

During the first nine weeks of initial entry training (IET), the trainee completed basic combat training which included instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

During AIT, the soldier completed the armor crewman course to receive skill training in conducting tank unit defensive and offensive combat operations. The soldier was trained to operate, service and maintain armor tracked and wheeled vehicles, load and fire tank weapon systems, perform ammunition handling and supply duties, and assist in target detection and identification.

Vasquez, the son of Carolyn Vasquez of Corsicana, is a 2005 graduate of Corsicana High School.
