Duane Nutt celebrated his 80th birthday on Friday, Sept. 6, after a big party with family and friends over the Labor Day weekend.
A well-known athlete and 1949 graduate of Corsicana High School, Nutt and his sweetheart Davis Jones have been married for 58 years. His career was spent largely in Sherman coaching football on the high school and college level, and he is an active fan of local football and baseball, both at Corsicana High School and Navarro College, where he teaches English. Nutt keeps his finger on the pulse with a weekly prayer breakfast for coaches, and he may often be spotted in his neighborhood walking his faithful dog, Frank, or out on the golf course.
The Nutts are members of Believer’s Bible Church, and have been involved with Meals on Wheels. During the time Two Doors Down Coffee Shop was open, Davis Nutt cooked with sister-in-law Mary Jones, and they would often allow Duane to have a free meal — if he washed the dishes.
Eldest daughter Dee Scott put it this way about her father, “Duane Nutt is known in Corsicana as a good man who loves people and loves the Lord.”
