Eleanor Greer 80th Birthday

Our sweet mother Eleanor Irene Jacobs Greer turned 80 years old March 11, 2014.

She married Johnny Frank Greer on March 18, 1950. They will be married 64 years this month.

Eleanor worked on the farm and helped raise her younger siblings. There were 10 children born to Orvel Lee Jacobs and Myrtle Elizabeth Jergins Jacobs. Two of Eleanor’s sisters have passed and one brother in January of this year.

Eleanor and Frank had three children, Mary Ann, Terry Dan and Kary Nan; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren. Mary is married to Kevin Northington. Dan is married to Alisia Sykes Greer. Nan is single for the time.

Eleanor has worked on a farm hoeing cotton, pulling cotton, bailing hay, pulling corn, helping plant a large garden, milking cows and feeding hogs. She got married, worked one year at Ennis Tag and Business Forms, one year at the glove factory, 10 years at the hat factory, 10 years at Haggar Slacks factory, and 15 years at Corsicana Salvage — all while driving a school bus for CISD for 30 years. She also cleaned four houses every week for three years.

Eleanor’s hobbies include making quilts, for children, grandchildren, and to be auctioned at ice cream suppers. She was president of the ice cream supper to raise money for Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery for 22 years.

These days, she stays busy helping Alisia and Dan with Affordable Affairs Catering, and working in the garden planting peach, pecan and fruit trees and a big berry patch. Eleanor has belonged to Calvary Worship Center for over 23 years, and loves to cook for church dinners, funerals, auctions and to take food to the sick. She loves to fish, and play 42. She is the world’s best on helping people, always doing things for others and giving gifts. She is a hard worker who loves her family and loves Jesus.
