Navarro College PAL will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Cook Center on the Navarro College campus. All people 60 years of age and older are invited to attend. The program will be by Betty Lambert, volunteer coordinator for the Pearce Collections Museum. Tours of both museums will be provided with this program. Kerens Ex-Students Association will have a hamburger supper fund-raiser at the Kerens Alumni Center from 5 to 7 p.m. preceding Kerens’ first home football game. Cost of meal will be $6 per plate. Proceeds benefit scholarships for Kerens seniors.



Aug. 30

Frost Volunteer Fire Department will have its seventh annual barbecue dinner starting at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event will assist with the cost of everyday operations — fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc.

Navarro County Republican Women invite women in the area to attend the Texas Federation Republican Women rally at the Holiday Inn Express in Salado. The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St. Justice Felipe Reyna of the 10th Court of Appeals in Waco will be the featured speaker. Reyna is the oldest of five children to a migrant worker and paid his way through Baylor Law School by working as a janitor at the 10th Court of Appeals. Now he is administering justice on those same courthouse grounds. From janitor to justice, Reyna has overcome humble roots with hard work and determination, inspiring Texans. Sept. 20

American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host the Angels of Corsicana’s troop support garage sale and bake sale beginning at 8 a.m. Your help is needed for volunteers and donations. Baked goods and garage sale items may be brought by the post after 2 p.m. daily. Angels will have “Pillows for Troops.” Come pick out a card and put the veteran’s name and address on it. Donations for pillows with attached greetings will be going to troops for the holidays. Sons of American Legion will sell barbecue sandwiches, chips and a drink for $5 beginning at 5 p.m. Entertainment with Don McRay Band from Fort Worth will begin at noon. Corsicana Art League will sponsor “Paint Historic Corsicana.” Look for the bright yellow shirts as artists paint the historic sights of Corsicana during the day Oct. 3-4. Anyone interested in participating check in at the Corsicana Visitor Center after 8 a.m. Oct. 3. Cost will be $15 which includes shirt. Paintings will be taken to The Art Spot at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4 for a reception, judging and sale. Paintings will be hung a the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce throughout October.
