Police make arrest in hit and run

An 18-year-old Corsicana man was arrested Friday in connection with a hit-and-run accident in which the car he was driving struck a motorcyclist on North Beaton Street.

A license plate from the car found at the scene of the accident led police to the home of Roger Francia, the driver of the 2003 Pontiac Gran Prix that struck 56-year-old Bill Bridger of Corsicana. Bridger was riding his motorcycle southbound in the 2200 block of North Beaton about 8:40 p.m. Friday when Francia reportedly lost control of his vehicle, striking the motorcycle. Francia fled the scene in the vehicle following the accident.

“Officers ran a check on the license plate that led them to the address where the car was found,” said Sgt. Kenneth Kirkwood.

Francia was charged with failure to stop and render aid/injury or death.

Bridger was taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital following the accident. Kirkwood did not have an update on the man’s condition Monday.
