Hubbard Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has announced plans for the 20th annual chamber banquet which is set for March 28 at the Haralson Family Life Center in Hubbard. This year’s banquet theme will be “Fiesta Night in Hubbard” and festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with Angie Krick at the piano for your listening pleasure.
Keynote speaker for the evening will be prominent Waco attorney and civic leader J.P. Davis, who has Hubbard roots and many friends in the area.
Berta Leon Hackney has been selected by the chamber board of directors to be inducted into its Hall of Fame. Hackney has been a civic leader and benefactor in the community. Jerry Smithey, Corsicana fireman, Hubbard businessman and civic leader, will receive the Distinguished Citizen Award. Keith’s Ace Hardware will be this year’s recipient of the chamber’s Business of the Year Award.
This year, the chamber has added another category to its award program and two community service awards will be presented. The recipients will be Carla Wetsel for her work with the youth in the community and surrounding area as coach of the Hubbard Wetcats swim team and the members of the PASS committee that worked to promote the passage of the much-needed Hubbard Independent School District bond.
As in past years, the chamber will also recognize new businesses that opened in the city in 2008. They are: Dale Heitmiller’s Outlaw Steakhouse, Sunshine Academy, Zen Garden Cottage Retreat, Citizens State Bank, Hubbard’s Cupboard, Country Collectibles, Helga’s Barber Shop, Notorious Nails, and Fastime Final. Dollar General and El Original will also be recognized as both of these businesses moved to new locations in the city during 2008.
Bill Waller’s Country Kitchen will cater the meal. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Foster Properties, Magnolias, Keith’s Ace Hardware, and Country Collectibles. For more information, contact the chamber office at (254) 576-2521.
