If you filled up your car or truck’s gas tank for an Easter weekend trip, you had to dig a little deeper than last month.
The average price for a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline Sunday in Corsicana was $3.16 a gallon, up 14 cents from an average of $3.02 a gallon found in a Daily Sun gas survey conducted exactly one month ago.
The most expensive gas found Sunday was $3.19 per gallon. Twelve stations in a survey of 26 gas pump locations in Corsicana were charging the highest price found in the city. Four of those stations were along the Interstate 45 corridor, packed with Easter weekend motorists.
Two stations were charging $3.17 per gallon, six were at $3.15 per gallon, two at $3.14 per gallon, one at $3.10 a gallon, and three stations sold gas for $3.07 per gallon.
In contrast to the February gas survey conducted by the Daily Sun, the most common pump price found was also the highest ($3.19). Last month, the most common pump price was $2.99, while the highest price found was $3.09 a gallon.
Still, an average price of $3.16 a gallon puts Corsicana at a penny below the statewide average reported by AAA Texas this week of $3.17 per gallon. That survey found El Paso with the lowest average price of $3.12 a gallon; Galveston had the highest average price this weekend with gas selling for $3.19. According to AAA Texas, the national average price for gasoline is $3.27 per gallon.
Nationally, www.gasbuddy.com reports the highest average price for gas in the continental United States was in California ($3.61) while New Jersey came in with the lowest average price ($3.03). The most expensive city in which to buy gasoline was listed by the Web site as San Francisco, where self-serve unleaded is selling at an average of $3.75 per gallon. The cheapest metropolitan area shown was Wichita, Kan., with an average price of $3.00 per gallon.
In March 2007, the Web site said the national average price for a gallon of gas was $2.68.
