First United Methodist Church, located on State Highway 31 in Kerens, will have the southern gospel quartet Praise Incorporated performing at 7 p.m. April 12.
In just three years, this group has been nominated in the top five by the U.S. Gospel News as Quartet of the Year, New Excellent Artist of the Year, and in 2005 received the Horizon Group of the Year. The quartet, consisting of Steve Sam, lead; Ron Higgins, tenor; Dodd Meadows, baritone; and Greg Bares, bass, uses the talent that God has given to warm your heart and bless your soul.
You are invited to come and share in the worship of Jesus Christ.
Also, the church youth group will host a dinner at 5 p.m. April 12. This group is planning a mission trip this June to aid the Berryville, Ark., area where tornadoes and floods have left devastation. The group is responsible for all their supplies to work with and other expenses. All donations will be appreciated.

Bethel AME Church’s gospel choir will celebrate its 61st anniversary celebration day at 3 p.m. April 13. You are asked to pray as the choir prepares and you are invited to come see them as they present an afternoon of song. There will be local and out-of-town guests. Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St., will celebrate its pastor and wife, the Rev. Dairy Johnson Sr. and Ellender Johnson, in 23rd appreciation services. At 3:30 p.m. April 6, the service will have the Rev. Earnest Betts of New Bethel Baptist Church as speaker. At 7:30 p.m. April 11, Dr. Preston Malone of New Inspiring Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ennis, will be the speaker. At 7 p.m. April 12, the Bethlehem youth department will sponsor a banquet for the Johnsons. The speaker will be the Rev. Johnny Vanibuls from Samaria Baptist Church. The anniversary service at 3:30 p.m. April 13 will have the Rev. Stanley Smith of Faith Fellowship in Grand Prairie as the speaker. Chairman of the appreciation services is Sister Sherretta Lewis.
Cedar Fork Baptist Church in Trinidad, where the Rev. Corey Jenkins is pastor, will have its seventh annual women’s conference at 7 p.m. April 8-11. Speakers will be: April 8 — Sister Glenda Coleman of Petersburg Baptist Church in Kerens; April 9 — Minister Cynthia Overton of Petersburg Baptist Church in Kerens; April 10 — Minister Roslyn Woodard of Antioch Baptist Church in Malakoff; and April 11 — Evangelist Gertrude Richardson of Taylor Memorial Church of God in Christ in Corsicana.
City Wide Women Convention will have the quarterly revival at 7 p.m. April 7-8 at Crossway Church of God in Christ, located on G.W. Jackson Avenue (formerly East Fifth Avenue). Everyone is welcome. The speakers will be Missionary Charlene Johnson and Minister Sharron D. Wilson. Founder is the late Mother Josie Hudson. President is Missionary Mary Jo Dixon. Host pastor is David S. Houston.
Faith Temple, 819 S. 15th St., where Joe Vasquez is pastor, will have a revival at 7 p.m. April 7-14 at the National Guard Armory, 3100 W. Seventh Ave., with Evangelist David Johnson. Come hear Johnson’s testimony, hear how he fell 60 feet and lived, and the personal visitation of Jesus Christ speaking to him audibly.
Johnson has traveled the country for 27 years preaching the word of God. He preaches under tents as well as in the inner city parks of America. He reaches the lost and hurting and troubled lives with the good news of Jesus Christ. Music is an important part of the meetings setting an atmosphere for worship. First Independent Baptist Church, 701 G.W. Jackson Ave., will celebrate its 61st ushers annual at 11 a.m. April 13. The speaker will be the Rev. Booker T. Washington from Galilee Baptist Church in Ennis. The theme will be “Doorkeeper” from Psalm 84:10. Host pastor is the Rev. Donald Lacey and president is Sister Bessie Meriwether.

Acclaimed evangelist, singer and composer Wesley Putnam will be leading in these revival services. Putnam holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Northeast Louisiana University and Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. An ordained United Methodist clergyman, he pastored local churches for over eight years before turning his attention to full-time evangelism in 1981.
Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County invites you to join in at 8:30 a.m. each Sunday for worship service. The church meets at the Navarro County Exposition Center, 4021 W. State Highway 22.
On April 6, there will be a child dedication ceremony during the worship service. Each Sunday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., the youth will meet for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. On April 13, LSCC will celebrate its one-year anniversary.

Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will meet at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Lone Star Room of the Walker Dining Hall on the Navarro College campus. This meeting is open to all men in the community. New Birth Sanctuary Church of God in Christ, 805 S. 15th St., will begin a “Promoting Health Education” program at 6 p.m. April 10 and continuing every other Thursday to educate children in the area about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and STDs, and instilling the word of God in them. This program will be in association with the Navarro County Boys and Girls Club, Eula Linicomn, the Corsicana/Navarro County Health Department, Emily Carroll, R.N. Refreshments will be served each evening. There will be a health video, pamphlets and information will be presented on these diseases. Any church, parents or others can contribute to refreshments.

St. Luke United Methodist Church, 2308 Bowie Drive, will have a garage sale fund-raiser from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5. Proceeds will help send youth and their sponsors to Arkansas for their 2008 summer mission trip and the John Wesley Scholarship Fund. There will be numerous items for sale, and the Methodist Men will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs.
