Virginia “Ginger” Richardson has been chosen as the lone finalist for the job of Finance Director and City Secretary for the City of Corsicana. She will have to be approved by the city council when the group meets Tuesday.
Richardson, 43, has been the assistant finance director with the City of Waxahachie for the last eight years, she said Friday.
“I wanted to have the opportunity to move up, to be the director of finance/city secretary,” she explained. “I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Richardson has lived in Ennis since she was a small child, and she currently lives in rural Ellis County. She graduated from Ennis High School and attended Navarro College. Her bachelors degree in Applied Business is from Dallas Baptist University. She is a certified public accountant (CPA), which she has been practicing since 1984. She served for a short time as city secretary for the City of Bardwell, a part-time job. She worked for the City of Kaufman as director of finance for about 18 months.
In addition to her work in Waxahachie, Richardson was also the former business manager for the Corsicana Daily Sun in the mid-90s.
“I used to work with a CPA firm that did audits, and that’s how I got started with government accounting,” she explained.
Once the council has approved her appointment, she will still have to go through the final verification of her education, pass a drug screening and background check.
The city had a number of applicants for the position, said Connie Standridge, city manager.
“I was very pleased with the candidate pool we had for this position,” she said. “Mrs. Richardson has the education and experience for the job. She will be a good fit for our team.”
Richardson said she is looking forward to the new job.
“It’s a good opportunity,” she said. “I’m excited about working with Connie Standridge, she seems like a nice lady. I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”
