Basics for Living classes are held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. every first and third Saturdays through May at Griffin Chapel Church of God in Christ, 709 E. 12th Ave., (903) 872-1840. The goal is motivate and inspire women of all ages to build themselves, their homes, church and community to the level that God will be pleased. Classes include Bible study and areas of special interest: beginners sewing/craft class, money management, parenting, eating healthy and purchasing items, i.e. cost vs. value. Classes for medically-challenged children and special needs children as well as their siblings are held at New Beginnings Family Fellowship, located on State Highway 22 in Blooming Grove. Creative therapy classes are held at 5 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Music therapy classes are held at 5 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. The classes are free. 4-H Horse Project Drill Team meetings are held at 3 p.m. the second Sunday of every month at KWC Quarterhorse Ranch, 1381 County Road NE2120, Kerens. Practice for drill team is available at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, call Carla at (903) 851-1361.
Donations are needed for maintenance of Petty’s Chapel Cemetery, located between Corsicana and Roane. Used adult-size baseball gloves and baseballs have been requested by Lance Cpl. Peter Seefeldt, son of Corsicana resident Ruth Neal. Seefeldt has been deployed with the 2nd Marine Division and is stationed in Iraq. You may drop off your donations of gloves and balls at the Corsicana Daily Sun office.

Frost Volunteer Fire Department has a community service center to help families in the area, who have lost their homes to fire, those with a financial need or those with catastrophic medical conditions. Donations are accepted from 3 to 5 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at the Community Service Center, located on Garitty Street in Frost. For more information, call (903) 229-0747. Frost VFD has smoke detectors available, at no charge, for the fire protection of qualified households which may include the elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged. Applications may be obtained from the Frost VFD, Frost City Hall, Corsicana Fire Department or Corsicana Government Center. Also, if you have a loved one serving the United States overseas, and you would like to make a video DVD to make their day a little brighter, Frost VFD wants to help you get your message to those loved ones. Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in the fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St. All are welcome to learn to give and to receive support at the weekly meetings. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) No. 1693, a non-profit organization, meets from 10 to 11 a.m. every Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th St., Corsicana. Weigh-ins are from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Anyone interested in losing weight with a strong support system is welcome.
