Wilson wins Precinct 1; Donica takes CISD race

Corsicana City Council incumbent Tom Wilson was reelected to serve precinct 1 for a full two-year term, with a vote of 134. Challenger Dennis Thornberg received 69 votes.

Wilson said he was pleased with the confidence voters showed in him.

“I wanted to be part of the team for the next two years,” Wilson said. “I’m really excited about the leadership the mayor and city manager are giving the city, and I just wanted to be part of it.”

Wilson was appointed about six months ago to replace George Walker on the council. A former football coach, Wilson was new to city government when he was appointed.

“There are a lot of important decisions facing the city, starting with the budget. That’s going to be a major thing,” Wilson said Saturday. “Obviously, we’re trying to find money for road improvements, but we don’t want to take away from the services we already give our citizens.”

Wilson said he was looking forward to the next two years.

“I’m very excited about being elected, and I’m looking forward to the next couple of years,” he said.

Kerri Anderson Donica won re-election to the Corsicana Independent School District Board of Trustees in Saturday’s school board election.

Donica was challenged in her bid for another term on the board by Wendy Castleman. The final vote in the race was 360-161.

“Of course, I’m thrilled to be re-elected,” Donica said Saturday after the results were announced.

“I think more than a vote for me, that it’s a vote for CISD, for Donnie Denbow, our administrators, our educators and our kids,” she said.

Donica said she feels the voters have sent a message of support to the district.

“I think the voters have said they are happy with what we’re doing, and I want to continue the improvements we’re making and continue to make the focus about the kids,” she added.

Donica was first elected to the CISD board in 2005. She was unopposed in that race.

Also joining Donica on the Corsicana school board is Leah Dill Blackard. Blackard was unopposed in her bid for the seat held by Donna Ralston, who chose not to seek another term.
