Cotten will have fifth term as sheriff

The deadline for filing as a write-in candidate has come and gone with no one applying for that status for the November general election, Navarro County Elections Administrator Danda Parker confirmed on Friday.
The deadline was 5 p.m. Thursday.
There is no Republican candidate for county sheriff on the ballot, although there had been indications of an independent challenger for the November general election. That leaves Navarro County Sheriff Les Cotten unopposed on the ballot.
Cotten will start his fifth term as the county sheriff on Jan. 1, 2009. He will have been sheriff for 16 years at the beginning of that four-year term.
