Griffin Chapel Church of God in Christ, 701 E. 12th Ave., where Superintendent E.L. Baptist is pastor and Ethel Baptist is elect lady, will have a musical at 7 p.m. May 16, hosted by Sister Marie Wafer, founder of the M and M Ministry, and Sister Joyce Daniels and Mother Dorothy Miller, founders of Zion Echo Singers. The theme will be “It’s in Your Praise.” Sister Betty Coaster will be emcee. Praise speakers will be Sisters E. Baptist, M. Wafer, B. Coaster, S. Lucas, J. Daniels and K. Pipkins. Guest singers will be Deacon Robert Wafer, The Guys of Corsicana, The Spiritual Disciples, and Mr. Wings himself Minister Corey Crawford. Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, 125 S. Fifth St., where Bishop K.D. Davis Sr. is pastor, will have its annual youth day program at 10:30 a.m. May 24. Clarence Allen David Miller will deliver his first sermon during this worship service.
Clarence is 14 years old and is an eighth grader at Collins Middle School. His extracurricular activities include band and choir where he has participated in award-winning UIL competitions. He has also received special commendation for his TAKS test scores.
He confessed his faith in Christ at the age of 6 and united with Sixth Avenue Baptist Church on Aug. 11, 2002, and was baptized at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. Clarence’s church ministry includes playing the drums and organ, and assisting with teaching Sunday school.
In his spare time, he enjoys video games, riding his bike, hanging with friends, and learning to play golf with his grandfather.
He is the son of Constance E. Miller of Corsicana and grandson of Deacon David and Minister Stephanie Easley of Arlington and the late Rev. C.A. Miller and Earline Miller of Corsicana.

Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St., where the Rev. Dairy Johnson Sr. is pastor, invites the public to come celebrate its women’s day annual May 24. The theme will be “Is My Living in Vain” from Proverbs 27:1. The speaker at 11 a.m. will be Sister Jade Ross of Corsicana. At 3:30 p.m. the guest church will be New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church of Corsicana, and its pastor, the Rev. Donné Watson, will bring the message.

Blooming Grove United Methodist Church, 300 Kerr St., where the Rev. Sandralyn Pierce is pastor, will have “Rural Renewal 2009,” an old gospel-style revival, at 7 p.m. May 17-19. The evangelist will be Dr. Rev. William J. Abraham.
Abraham hails from Northern Ireland. He was brought to faith by the farmers in the rural community of Enniskillen, Ireland, where he grew up. He was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen and Queen’s University, Belfast. Abraham went on to receive a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., and a Doctorate in Philosophy of Religion degree from the University at Oxford, England.
He is a world-renowned evangelist. He has preached in pulpits in Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Australia, and Africa, just to name a few. He is actively involved in church planting in Nepal, Kazakhstan and Rumania through his non-profit foundation called The Oasis Foundation Inc., an ecumenical ministry supported by a number of Baptist, Methodist and Episcopalian churches in Texas.
Abraham also served as a Methodist minister in Ireland and held the post of associate professor of theology and philosophy at Seattle Pacific University. From 1985 to 1995 he was the McCreless professor of evangelism and professor of philosophy of religion at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. In 1995 he was appointed to the Albert Cook Outler professor of Wesley studies at Perkins, working as a philosophical and systematic theologian in the Wesleyan tradition. In 2003 he was appointed as university distinguished teacher at Southern Methodist University.
Abraham has authored numerous articles in philosophy, theology, and evangelism. In 1991 he wrote a major review article on “The State of Christian Theology in North America” for the “Encyclopedia Britannica’s Great Ideas Today.” His books include: “An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion,” “The Art of Evangelism,” “The Logic of Evangelism,” “Canon and Criterion in Christian Theology,” “Crossing the Threshold of Divine Revelation,” “The Logic of Renewal,” “Waking from Doctrinal Amnesia,” and “Wesley for Armchair Theologians.” He has edited and co-authored a number of various other books as well.
For the May 17 kick-off for the revival, the chancel choir from Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in Dallas, under the direction of the Rev. Nicki Lyford, will provide a mini-concert at 6:30 p.m. of old gospel favorites as well as classic choral works. Music will be led nightly by the Rev. Jonathan Mellette and the Rev. Sandralyn Pierce. The Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory will also assist in worship.

Church of the Living God, 917 G.W. Jackson Ave., will have dinners for sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 16. Faith Temple Ministries, North Highway 75, Fairfield, will celebrate its annual “Men in Black” program at 4 p.m. May 17. Harmony Baptist District will have its men’s and women’s conference May 16 at Second Mission Baptist Church, 909 S. Fifth St., where Moderator Larry L. Polk Sr. serves as pastor. Registration fee will be $25. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. Intercessory prayer will be at 9 a.m. and general assembly will begin at 9:30 a.m. The theme for the occasion will be “Who’s the Winner Now?” Guest speakers will be Pastor Earnest Betts and Minister Catherine Manning. House of Refuge Church of God in Christ, 413 Farm-to-Market Road 709 East, Dawson, where Elder Paul E. Puckett is pastor, invites you to worship. Come and lift up the name of the Lord. A baby dedication service will be held May 17. On May 24, there will be a baptismal service. On May 30, a team roping event will be held in the arena. Books will open at 10 a.m. and roping will begin at 11 a.m. There is a $20 per team entry fee. A buckle will be awarded to the high point header and heeler of the number eight roping. Concessions will be available. On May 31, there will be an eatin’ meetin’ after worship services where all are invited to join in for fun, food and fellowship.
Weather permitting, there is roping practice at 6 p.m. Tuesdays followed by roping at 7 p.m. Bible study is held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Barrel racing practice is held at 7 p.m. Thursdays, and at 7 p.m. Fridays there is Lil Wranglers basic horsemanship class. Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will meet at 6:45 a.m. May 20 at Trinity Baptist Church, 1200 N. 13th St. This meeting is open to all men in the community. Mistress of ceremony will be Sister Sophia Massey. New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 1808 W. 10th Ave., where the Rev. D.R. Watson is pastor and the Rev. M.L. Green is assistant pastor, will have the annual men’s day program at 3 p.m. May 17, sponsored by the brotherhood and deacons ministry. Minister Corey Crawford, associate minister and president of the brotherhood, will serve as the master of ceremonies. The scripture will come from Romans 2:10 and the theme will be “Righteous Men of Honor.” Speaking on the theme will be Deacon Larry Wilson Sr. and Brother Don Jones Sr. Offering greetings to all of the day’s guests will be Brother Brian Bates. Special guests for the afternoon will be Pleasant Olive Baptist Church of Malone and the speaker of the hour will be the Rev. Carl Oliver. Join the men of New Cornerstone and church family in this service of praise and worship as the male chorus lifts up the name of Jesus in song. The general public is invited.

Open Bible study and gospel singing is held every Thursday at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave., Corsicana. There is no cost to attend. XYZ (Xtra Years of Zest) will meet at 11:45 a.m. May 19 for a unique program titled “Corsicana Roadshow” by Donna and Jon Ed Ingham, local antique dealers. They will add a feature, “Show and Tell,” and encourage everyone to bring their special antiques or collectibles to be critiqued. Gaylord and Dorothy Edling, co-moderators, invite everyone to attend the luncheon. Men and women of all ages and faiths are encouraged to attend. A meat dish and beverages will be provided. Bring a salad, vegetable dish or a dessert and your friends. Come for warm fellowship, good food and a super program.
