Chamber to host business seminar in July

By Bob Belcher

The Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business seminar on customer service skills in July.

It is the first of what will be quarterly seminars open to chamber members and the general public, designed to benefit business and industry in Corsicana and Navarro County.

One of the stated goals of Dr. Richard Sanchez, this year’s chamber chairman, was to improve member services. These seminars are designed to meet business’s needs for educational opportunities for their employees, according to Becky Kinkade of the Education Council of the chamber.

“As part of the education council, Terry Fauble and I were asked to put together some educational offerings for our members and the community,” Kinkade said.

“We will be bringing in quarterly seminars that will be of benefit to our Corsicana and Navarro County businesses, or anyone that would be interested,” she said.

The chamber is partnering with HR Corsicana, a group of human resource professionals, and part of a national group, to coordinate the offerings. Kinkade is also with HR Corsicana.

The first seminar will take place on July 20. It will be held in the Lone Star Room in the Navarro College Dining Hall. Two sessions will be held, one from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and a second in the afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m.

“Customer service is a topic that is for everybody,” Kinkade said of their choice for the first quarterly seminar.

Leading the seminar will be Judy White House of Temple. She is president of Capital Insights Consulting, a company specializing in coaching and educational sessions designed to improve the workplace. House, an MBA, also serves on the MBA Advisory Board at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and is an MBA coach at the McCombs School of Business at UT.

Plans are already being put together for the fourth quarter, Kinkade said. A class on conflict management is being planned for late September or early October.

Businesses and individuals interested in taking part in the seminar may contact the Chamber of Commerce at (903) 874-4731, or Terry Fauble at (903) 874-2585.
