Several local law enforcement officials from surrounding communities met to discuss strategic enforcement of underage drinking laws in the first of a series of quarterly collaborative meetings hosted by Drug Prevention Resources, Inc. (DPRI).
The IMPACT Communities Law Enforcement Collaborative Meetings were devised to offer officials an opportunity to explore tactics and strategies fellow agencies are using to prevent and reduce underage drinking. Topics included special operations to detect the sale or providing of alcohol to minors and party dispersals.
“Alcohol kills six times more youth than all other illegal drugs combined,” said Shannon Graves, Program Director of DPRI’s IMPACT Communities program. “Law enforcement play a critical role in preventing and reducing this dangerous and illegal behavior.”
Law enforcement agencies in attendance included Corsicana Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Ennis Police Department, Grand Prairie Police Department, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), Texas Department of Public Safety, and Waxahachie Police Department.
DPRI currently operates five community coalitions under its IMPACT Communities program: IMPACT Cedar Hill, IMPACT Ennis, IMPACT Grand Prairie, IMPACT Navarro County, and IMPACT Waxahachie. IMPACT coalitions are groups of community volunteers who work together to provide public education, law enforcement, and public policy strategies to prevent underage drinking and build communities that are safe, healthy and drug-free!
