Mildred releases TAKS scores

Exit level scores highest; eighth graders excel

Mildred Independent School District has released its scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, and administrators are praising students and teachers for their work.

More than 80 percent of students in most grades passed their tests, the exceptions being third grade, ninth grade and 10th grade math tests.

Sixty-nine percent of third graders, and 69 percent of 10th graders passed the math TAKS, while 77 percent of ninth graders passed the math TAKS. The ninth grade math grades are actually an improvement over ninth grade math tests in 2007 and 2006.

“There are always things you want to improve on, but they’re great,” said Becky Burns, assistant superintendent with the district. “I’m so very pleased.”

Exit-level scores were the highest, with 100 percent of students passing the social studies test, and 98 percent passing the English Language Arts test. Eighty-eight percent of students passed both the math and the science tests.

Also showing good results were students in eighth grade, 100 percent of whom passed the reading test, 95 percent passed the social studies test, 88 percent passed science, and 87 percent passed the math test.

Sixth graders also performed very well, with 96 percent of the class passing both the reading and math tests.

“It was lots of hard work from students and teachers,” Burns said.
