A busy summer for 4-H



4-H Family & Consumer Science summer activities are warming up with a busy agenda of fun and educational activities. Preparation will begin for the fall food challenge contests with several workshops which begin on June 17. A Food Challenge overview will be held from noon until 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church and interested 4Her’s are encouraged to participate to learn more about Food Challenge and to form teams.

The following week, youth will travel to Dallas to the Milestone Culinary Arts Center, Viking Cooking School. This will be held Thursday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and promises to be a fun and tasty culinary adventure. On July 2 and 16, 4-Her’s will take a break from food challenge by playing Bingo with the residents of Heritage Oaks Retirement Village. Times for this project will be 9:15 to 10:30 a.m., and those that will participate are asked to bring a lotion, shower gel, or other bath item for the prize box. On July 17, Lori Kirby, Blooming Grove ISD Family and Consumer Science teacher, will help facilitate a Fashion Design and Storyboard workshop at the Corsicana Public Library. This workshop will be held from noon until 5 p.m. and 4-Her’s will learn the ins and outs of design and preparing a fashion storyboard for the 4-H fashion project and contest. This will be a fun and creative afternoon.

A final food workshop will take place on July 23 from noon until 5 p.m. when food challengers will venture to Hill County for a tri-county food challenge. This will be an opportunity for teams to practice together with other counties. To end the summer, a Consumer Decision Making Scavenger Hunt will be held on July 30 from 1 to 5 p.m. The activity will begin with a tour of Bancroft’s Pecans in Powell, and end with an ice cream sundae at a mystery destination. Participants will uncover clues to the final location through a series of savvy consumer decisions.
