Love Chapel Baptist Church, 400 N. Benton St., will celebrate the fifth appreciation service for its pastor and wife, David and Sharron D. Wilson, who have been faithful and dedicated to the work of the ministry at Love Chapel Church. A pre-anniversary service will be held at 7 p.m. June 27. Guest churches will be Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ, Roane Chapel Full Gospel Church, Church of the Living God of Malakoff, and New Greater Deliverance COGIC of Waxahachie. The message will be brought by Pastor Joseph Johnson Sr. On June 28, Sunday school will begin at 9:45 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The spoken word will be brought by Minister Carl Crenshaw, associate minister at St. John Baptist Church of Avalon. The anniversary hour will begin at 3 p.m. with guests Macedonia Baptist Church, New Birth COGIC, Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, and Kingdom Connection Fellowship of Churches. The spoken word will be brought by Pastor Erma Young. You are invited to come and praise the Lord in this service as the church honors the man and woman of God for their faithfulness and commitment to the work of the kingdom.

New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 1808 W. 10th Ave., where the Rev. D.R. Watson is pastor, has announced that the second appreciation service will be held for the Rev. and Sister M.L. Green at 3 p.m. June 28. Guest church will be New Bethel Baptist Church of Kerens and the speaker of the hour will be the Rev. Earnest Betts. Serving as master of ceremonies will be Brother Don Jones Sr. Welcoming guests will be Sister Ruthie Wilson. Sister Joann Green and Sister Deniece McDonald will talk about the service rendered by the Rev. and Sister Green to the New Cornerstone family. Escorting the honorees will be the Rev. D.R. Watson and Sister Paula Watson.

Green has served as assistant pastor of New Cornerstone for the past two and one-half years, ministering to youth and the congregation in general. Preaching every third Sunday, Green has been Watson’s right-hand man. Green is a graduate of Corsicana High School and attended Navarro College. Recently he received an associate degree in biblical studies from Southern Bible Institute in Dallas. Green is a dedicated husband to Sister Trina Green, and the proud father of seven children. His helpmate is a supportive spouse and a wonderful mother. She has served as choir president and assistant youth and praise dance sponsor. She is a graduate of Kerens High School and a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

You are invited to come out and be a part of this great fellowship, honoring two very hard-working people for Christ. Praise in the Park will be held at 6 p.m. June 27 at Bunert Park, sponsored by Single Believers Ministries and Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department. The event will feature recording artist Tommye Young West of Dallas, emcee Evangelist James Henderson of God’s Property/Kirk Franklin, New Life, Spiritual Disciples of Dallas, and Minister Jason of Bethel AME Church.

Tommye Young West started singing in her father’s church, the late Bishop T.L. Young, at the age of 5. West’s professional career began in 1970, as a secular artist with a hit single, “Do You Still Feel The Same Way,” that sold over 500,000 units. In 1978, she sang on the soundtrack for the NBC television special, “A Woman Called Moses,” starring Cicely Tyson. West also performed on the “Dinah Shore Show,” sang back-up vocals for Doc Severson on his “Night Journey” album, and has been a featured soloist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and North Carolina Symphony Orchestra. She has performed numerous radio commercials.

Gospel recordings include “The Jordan River,” “Just Call Me Tommye,” “Believe,” “Patriotic Medley” (dedicated to the victims of Sept. 11), “Now Is The Time,” “You Promised Me” and “Created to Worship.” In 2002, she was a featured artist on Bishop T.D. Jakes’ release, “A Wing And A Prayer,” and was also featured on the Georgia Mass Choir’s live recording “I Owe You The Praise.”

West has worked with many renowned gospel and secular artists including Stevie Wonder, D.J. Rogers, God’s Property, Douglas Miller, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Dr. Vernard Johnson, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Kim Burrell, the late O’Landa Draper, Take Six, Beverly Crawford, Al Green, Daryl Coley, and Edwin Hawkins. She has also had major roles in seven gospel plays, two of which toured nationally.

Over the years, she has received many awards for her work in gospel music. In 1992, at the Texas Republican Convention, West was featured in a performance prior to the address of the former first lady, Barbara Bush.

Among her many awards, West was voted Artist of the Year by the Texas Gospel Announcers Guild in 1991 and 2001. In 1993, she was voted the Female Artist of the Year and in 2001 was voted Female Vocalist of the Year by the Texas Gospel Music Association.

Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St., where the Rev. Dairy Johnson is pastor, invites the public to come out for a pre-homecoming musical at 7 p.m. July 11. You are invited to come worship in song and praise as the Lord is lifted up. Sherretta Lusk is chairman.

Faith Temple Ministries, North Highway 75, Fairfield, where P.A. Rischer is pastor, will have its “Women in Red” program at 4 p.m. June 28. The emcee will be first lady DeMetria Daniel of Palestine. Praise and worship will be by Minister Valorie Horn of Corsicana. Guest speaker will be Minister Joyce Green of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Fairfield. First Independent Baptist Church officers and members will observe Pastor Donald Lacey’s ninth anniversary June 28 through July 12. The pre-anniversary service will begin at 3:30 p.m. June 28 with Bishop K.D. Davis Sr. of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church presiding. Guest churches and pastors also on the program for that afternoon will be New Bethel Baptist Church, the Rev. Earnest Betts; Greater Wilgo Baptist Church, the Rev. Arthur Faulk Jr.; Harmony Baptist Church, Bishop John Baker; and Greater Love Outreach, Elder William Lewis.

At 3:30 p.m. July 5, the Rev. Dairy Johnson Sr., pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, will speak. Guest churches and pastors also on the program for the afternoon will be Mount Olive Baptist Church, the Rev. Alfred Cox; Second Mission Baptist Church, the Rev. Larry Polk; New Cornerstone Baptist Church, the Rev. Donné Watson; Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, the Rev. Gary Moore; and Bethel AME Church, the Rev. Ray Emmanuel.

At 10:50 a.m. July 12, the first anniversary hour will be held. The guest will be Minister Cedric Barber of New Millennium Baptist Church of Dallas. The 3:30 p.m. July 12 speaker will be Dr. Gregory Foster Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park from Richardson. The theme will be “A Pastor for Times Like These” from 2 Timothy 4:1-5.

General Assembly Church of the Living God, P.G.T., 141 S. State Highway 309, Kerens, where Elder Omega Dunnington is pastor, recently remodeled the church. An open house program has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. July 5. Eldress Mary Henderson from Church of the Living God of Athens will be the guest speaker. Greater Wilgo Baptist Church, 621 E. First Ave., where Arthur C. Faulk serves as pastor, will observe its family and friends day at 3 p.m. June 28. Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance will have its fourth Sunday night fellowship at 7 p.m. June 28 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2105 E. Kingdom Connection fourth Sunday fellowship will combine with Love Chapel Baptist Church as the church celebrates the fifth appreciation service for its pastor and wife, David and Sharron D. Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County, 4495 W. State Highway 22, invites you to join in at 10 a.m. each Sunday for worship. At 6:30 p.m. June 26 there will be a meet and greet hot dog dinner event for all youth. A roping event will be June 27. Books will open at 6 p.m. and roping will start at 7 p.m. Buckles go to high point header and heeler roping. The monthly eating-meeting will be held after morning service June 28. Bring your favorite dish and join in for a time of fun and fellowship. The next ranch sorting practice will be held at 7 p.m. July 17. The first hour will be clinic format, followed by jackpot format. A fee of $20 per person allows you to sort as many times as you want. Team roping practice is held at 6 p.m. Tuesdays followed at 7 p.m. by roping. At 7 p.m. Wednesdays, there is Bible study. At 7 p.m. Thursdays, there is barrel racing practice. Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will meet at 6:45 a.m. July 1 at Lighthouse of Praise, 200 E. Collin St. This meeting is open to all men in the community. Word of Life Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 200 E. 18th Ave., where Elder Lee J. Keeton Sr. is pastor, will have Vacation Bible School from 8 a.m. to noon June 29 through July 3. Children from age 3 to 16 are invited to come be a part of the school, and learn more about God. On July 3, it will be “fun day” and certificates will also be given on that day.
