Commissioners approve bid, discuss procedures

The Navarro County Commissioners Court approved a contract Friday to replace a bridge on SECR 2230. The bridge will replace three culverts that washed out during storms in April. The project was approved at a cost of $46,000.

Commissioners also discussed county purchasing procedures, and are considering a change in the dollar amount of purchases that require competitive bidding. A change in state law now allows certain purchases of up to $50,000 to be made without first advertising for bids. Current county policy requires competitive bids on purchases over $25,000.

Precinct 1 commissioner Kit Herington asked that research be done on what other counties are doing with purchasing policies.

The matter will appear on the commissioners agenda again on July 13.
