Texas Youth Ranch Association Rodeo will be held beginning at 9 a.m. at the Navarro County Exposition Center, located on State Highway 22, Corsicana. The event will be free to the public. You are invited to come, watch, and have fun.
Masonic District 110 will have a joint officers installation at 3 p.m. at the Corsicana Masonic Lodge. Eastern Star ladies will provide refreshments.
Navarro County A&M Club will host its 2009 Aggie fish fry at 6 p.m. at the lake house of C.L. “Buster” Brown, 3211 Farm-to-Market Road 2859. Junior Red Pot David Michaelsen, Class of 2011, will speak about the inception and safety aspects of the student bonfire, held off-campus each year since 2003. Musical entertainment will be by Chris Dyer. A $10 minimum donation per person is requested for fried fish, sides and draft beer, with proceeds going to the student bonfire. Boys and Girls Club of Navarro County, 1000 G.W. Jackson Ave., will sponsor “Let’s Rap About It Teen Issues” from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Classes will be Christian dating, alcohol and drug issues and their consequences, and hip/hop culture. Classes will be taught by Donald Ray Parrish Jr. of Dallas, K.D. Davis, Derrick Lusk of Garland, Patrick Gunnell and Valorie Horn. A concession stand will be available. A movie room will be provided for children below the age of 12.

Barry Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at Barry United Methodist Church. Environmentalist Stanley Young will be the speaker. The public is invited to attend, and light refreshments will be served.

Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre, 119 W. Sixth Ave., will present “The Last Night of Ballyhoo,” the third show of the 2009 season series. The story of Alfred Uhry’s 1999 Tony award-winning play takes place in Atlanta, Ga., in December 1939. “Gone with the Wind” is having its world premiere, and Hitler is invading Poland, but members of Atlanta’s elitist Jewish community are much more concerned with who is going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the season. This production replaces the previously scheduled “A Bad Year for Tomatoes.” Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. July 30-31, Aug. 1, 4, and 6-8 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 2. Frost Community Center will have a western bean dinner fund-raiser beginning at 6:30 p.m. Come and be a part of the fun, food and entertainment. There will be bean dishes of all kinds. Please bring salads or desserts or any favorite dish to compliment the bean dinner. Also, please bring one canned meat product to support the food bank. There will be door prizes and raffle items. Come and be surprised at the wonderful old-time cowboy decorations and hear your favorite western songs and maybe even songs from the ‘50s.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption, or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. This session will be Aug. 11, 13, 18 and 20. Two separate sessions will be offered on these dates. One will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the other from 4 to 6 p.m. Participants are required to attend all sessions. A fall carnival and festival will kick off at 4 p.m. with a parade of old cars and motorcycle riders down Garitty Street in downtown Frost and then displayed for car enthusiasts at Frost City Park. There will be traditional carnival games, arts and crafts booths, and food. The rumor is that Elvis will make an appearance to entertain along with a DJ and dance at dusk. This event will be a major fund-raiser for the Frost Community Center to stock the food pantry and expand its outreach programs.
