The Gospel Five will be in concert at 7 p.m. July 19 at Kelly’s Temple Church of God in Christ, 501 N. Third St., where Elder Billy Joe Kelly is pastor. Everyone is invited. The Gospel Five recently released its new CD titled “I Got a Friend,” which is available at The Ark, from group members or by calling (903) 874-4155.



Abundant Life Fellowship, 3900 Farm-to-Market Road 744, located across from Corsicana High School, will host a benefit singing for Suzanne Castanon at 6 p.m. July 20. Faith Baptist Church, located at 109 Farm-to-Market 2452 and West State Highway 31, where Brother James D. Greater Haynes Memorial Church of God in Christ in Mexia will give a third appreciation to Minister and Missionary Ernest Clay at 3 p.m. July 20. Harmony Baptist District Association Congress of Christian Education will convene July 21-24 at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2105 E. Jones Ave., where Alfred Cox is pastor. The theme will be “Jesus Only.” The sub themes will be “Being Christ Centered” from 1 Corinthians 2:2 and Ephesians 4:4 and “Christ in my Space” from Romans 12:1-2. Congress president is Earnest Betts, congress dean is James Borkchum, and district moderator is Larry L. Polk Sr.

A youth picnic will be held at 11 a.m. July 21 at Jester Park. The service at 7 p.m., will have introduction of speaker by Larry L. Polk Sr., district moderator. The youth evangelistic message by Pastor Miller Parrish of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ennis.

The youth conference will begin at 9:30 a.m. July 22 with the message by Pastor Charles Douglas of New Bethel Baptist Church of Kerens. A short program by district churches will be at 10 a.m. Life directives will be given by Chester Jones III. Following lunch, the youth program at 1:30 p.m. will include an inspirational singing, Bible drill and talent program. At 7:30 p.m. Sister Ruby Williams, youth directress, will give her annual address. Invitation to Christian discipleship will be given by Pastor Joe Hubbard Sr. There will also be a presentation of awards and the king and queen review.

Sessions will begin at 9 a.m. July 23 with opening words given by Earnest Betts, congress president. Bible lesson will be given by Minister Sharron Wilson. There will also be a 1:30 p.m. session. The thematic address will be given by Sister Euradela Yarbough and speaking on the theme will be Chester Jones. At 7:30 p.m., Deacon James Borkchum, congress dean, will give his annual address. A lecture on “Godly Stewardship” will be given by Pastor Monroe Allen.

The 9:15 a.m. July 24 session will have “Life Changing Experiences” by Sister Birdie Howze, with alternate Sister Christine Whitehead, and “The Role of Godly Women in the Home” by Sister Carol Burgess. Following lunch, the 1 p.m. session will include departmental works, reports and emphasis, inspirational singing, and five-minute Bible preaching by Minster Arnold Carter of Mount Olive Baptist Church and Minister Corey Crawford of New Cornerstone Baptist Church. Earnest Betts, congress president, will give his annual address at 7:30 p.m. followed by an invitation to Christian discipleship by Pastor Donné Watson.

Kelly’s Temple Church of God in Christ, where Elder B.J. Kelly is pastor, will be in its 21st church anniversary at 7:30 p.m. July 18 and 3:30 p.m. July 20. The theme will be from Psalm 150:1-6. Life in the Word Bible Church, 1408 N. Beaton St., where Don and Emma Jessie are pastors, will celebrate family, friends and neighbors at 10 a.m. July 20. Guest minister will be Anthony Brown, who has joined the church under watch care. He is a graduate of Cedar Hill High School and is currently enrolled in Cedar Valley College pursuing a degree in business administration. Come and enjoy fellowship, fun and food.



Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County invites you to join in for worship at 10 a.m. this Sunday at the new church location, 4495 W. State Highway 22, one mile of the Navarro County Exposition Center. Following the worship service, a brisket lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a Lil Wranglers rodeo with mutton busting and stick horse races. Other activities will include music provided by the worship band, hay rides, pony rides and water wars. All activities will be free of charge, and the public is invited to join in for a day of fun and fellowship. Bible study will begin at 7 p.m. July 23 at the new church building. Love Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 400 N. Benton St., where David E. Wilson is pastor, will observe its choir annual at 3:30 p.m. July 20. Guest church will be Greater Liberty Hill Baptist Church of Waco, and the spoken word will be brought by Pastor Emmitt Jones. Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast meets at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Lone Star Room of the Walker Dining Hall on the Navarro College campus. This meeting is open to all men in the community. New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 1808 W. 10th Ave., will host the annual choir day at 3 p.m. July 20. The choir is under the direction of Sister Denise McDonald. Sister Trina Green serves as choir president, and Sister Teresa Blair is the vice president.

Guest church will be Straight Way Missionary Baptist Church and the Rev. A.E. Smith will be the guest speaker. Sister Joann Green will extend the welcome and Sister Trina Green will be the mistress of ceremony. The occasion will be done by Sister Lois Ballard. The scripture reading can be found in Psalm 149. The theme will be “Walking in newness, seeking God’s favor.” Come and be a part of this great praise and worship service and the powerful teaching and preaching ministry of this man of God.

St. Luke and St. Andrew’s United Methodist churches will have Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 20-24 for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade at St. Luke UMC, 2308 Bowie Drive. Second Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 3045 W. Second Ave., will have Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:25 p.m. July 21-24. Closing program will be 7 p.m. July 25. Classes will range from age 2 to adults. The adult class will begin at 7:30 p.m. each day. Everyone is welcome, and a nursery will be provided for those attending the adult class.

Brother Charles McBryde also invites you to the regular scheduled services: Sunday — devotional at 9:45 a.m., Sunday school at 10 a.m., worship service at 10:45 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and Wednesday — service at 7 p.m.

Jackson Ave. (formerly East Fifth Avenue), where the pastor is Bishop F.G. Taylor. The speaker will be Pastor Carlos Daniels of Faith Tabernacle Ministries of Palestine. Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, 125 S. Fifth St., where Bishop K.D. Davis Sr. is pastor and the Rev. H.P. Williams is associate pastor, invites you to tune in to its radio broadcast now held from 8 to 9 a.m. Sundays on KAND 1340 AM. You are invited to wake up to good gospel in the morning.
