After several months of planning, the Frost Community Center, 217 N. Garitty St., is scheduled to open on Aug. 2. An open house will be held that day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The front room will be available for large gatherings and party rental at a nominal charge. The back of the center will house a food pantry and a clothing room.
Other services provided once the center is open will be job search services, a book exchange area, tutoring for children and teens, Girl Scouts, and recreation for senior citizens.
Initially the center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and then again from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month.
Services and hours will be extended based upon volunteer participation. The Frost Community Center is a combined effort between the churches, Frost Volunteer Fire Department, and several dedicated residents.
A work day was held from July 12 to paint the food pantry area and do other small jobs around the facility. The Frost Community Center is also taking financial donations for tables and chairs and recreation equipment.
