Antiques show offers dreamy visions for all
By Janet Jacobs
An upscale antique and home interiors sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Oaks Plantation, 2024 NECR 1030, just off Farm-to-Market 1603 in Chatfield, hosted by three antiques dealers with world-class experience.
Carolyn Westbrook of Carolyn Westbrook Home, a wholesale linens and one-of-a-kind antiques company operating in the United States and Canada for the last 14 years, is the host of the show. She’s best known for bedding, pillows and accessories.
“Everybody was like ‘you’ve got a great place for a show,’” Carolyn said, explaining why she’s hosting an elegant antiques show in Chatfield.
For the last week, Westbrook and Pat Singleton, who runs Singleton Antiques in Tyler, and Linda Marcov, who runs Willow Nest Farm antiques and architectural ornaments in Burleson, have been grooming the plantation’s grounds, and setting up the dreamy scenes with European pieces mixed with contemporary to create a kind of otherwordly shopping experience.
Friday evening, donors to the Chatfield Fire Department were able to preview the sale, while the public is invited to the Saturday show.
Westbrook has customers throughout North America, and she sent out 600 postcards for this special sale, primarily to people in Dallas and Houston, who might want to make the drive, she said.
“I’ve been on three buying trips gathering antiques for the show,” she said.
In her former warehouse, a smaller house behind the large plantation house, she’s set up a showcase for her wares, with antique beds beautifully made with comforters and pillows. Outside, an old wooden wheelbarrow cascades with enormous pillows in various fabrics.
Set up in a large airy tent behind the house are various themed ‘rooms’ set off with highboys and bookcases, benches and willow hangings. Customers may buy an individual piece or the whole scene.
Westbrook has been featured in Romantic Homes magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Country Living and others. She has written three books showing readers how to replicate her romantic style in their own homes.
To find the site from Corsicana, take Interstate 45 North and exit onto FM 1603, and turn right, towards Chatfield. Go five miles into Chatfield, and turn left at the post office. Take the first left onto a gravel road, and it’s the second house on the right. Large signs point the way.
