Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas, Ombudsman Program, needs volunteers interested in advocating for residents in nursing facilities in Navarro County. No previous experience is required, 36 hours of training is provided, it takes only two to three hours per week and the hours are flexible. Ombudsmen (advocates) investigate and work to resolve complaints for or on behalf of the resident and work to educate residents and their families on residents’ rights. Shakers and Scrapers Car Club meets from 6:30 to 10 p.m. the second Friday of each month (March through November) at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2217 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Each month brings a variety of cars and spectators, as well as music, a 50/50 pot, and random door prizes. The cruise nights are weather permitting, and there are no make-up nights for them.
Classes for medically-challenged children and special needs children as well as their siblings are held at New Beginnings Family Fellowship, located on State Highway 22 in Blooming Grove. Creative therapy classes are held at 5 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Music therapy classes are held at 5 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. The classes are free. Holman, a former resident of Frost and son of William and Linda Meskiman, was severely injured in an accident April 26.
4-H Horse Project Drill Team meetings are held at 3 p.m. the second Sunday of every month at KWC Quarterhorse Ranch, 1381 County Road NE2120, Kerens. Practice for drill team is available at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, call Carla at (903) 851-1361.
Navarro County Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in the fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. 14th St. All are welcome to learn to give and to receive support at the weekly meetings. On the first Tuesday of each month, Dr. Tom Sheriff, licensed psychologist, conducts a study of “The Depression Workbook: A Guide for Living with Depression and Manic Depression.” For more information, call (903) 872-6302 or (903) 874-6815.
Central Appraisal District holds its board meetings at 3 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at 111 E. First Ave.
